Food for thought for the weekend. The "Installer Crisis" is what I hear a lot about of late. The fact that the current workforce will be retiring and people aren't coming through to replace them. But let me ask you another question ... How many Kitchen Designer vacancies there are in the UK at the moment ? In just 5 of the national retailers, #Wren #Howdens #Magnet #Homebase #Wickes there are currently 304 kitchen designer vacancies !!! (I have just been on these company websites and added them together, so the numbers are very up to date!). That is without managers, advisors, account managers, business developers, support roles, and installers. (There was another 72 Showroom Manager and Sales Advisor vacancies in just these 5 businesses, plus B&Q who only use advisors). This is also without all of the other suppliers, merchants, independents and many more. The total number of vacancies will be well over a thousand. I see more and more good people leaving the industry and they are finding roles away from KBB. A challenge to the key decision makers in this industry is ... "What is being done to recruit and retain design and sales talent ?" This isn't being done to embarrass anyone or to start the blame game, but as a wider industry, we have an obligation to try to fix this issue. This isn't an individual company problem, this is a sector challenge. I'm aware there are pockets of work being done with different organisations, but I think now is the time we all need to step up and take ownership. Do you think you have something to bring to the table to support this drive ? I have my own ideas, but really there is a need for the key decision makers within the top KBB businesses to get involved. If anybody feels they would have something to contribute to this, then please get in touch and let's see if we can make a difference.
