Lots of great takeaways from my first League of American Orchestras conference: LEADERSHIP - The biggest skills gap amongst developing arts leaders is: Delegating responsibility to others. - The greatest way to grow an arts leader is: Challenge them with a significant stretch assignment (delegate!). - How? --> Let's chat. AI - AI is likely to be as disruptive to arts organizations as it is in other industries. - There will be a significant advantage to being ahead of the curve. - The creative possibilities are fascinating (I'd be happy to share more). THREAT & OPPORTUNITY - It was heartbreaking to hear of producers securing music rights to video games, movie soundtracks and animated features, hiring pick-up orchestras and presenting shows in the same cities (and sometimes the same venues) as big traditional orchestras, undercutting their audience. - Candlelight Concerts are a HUGE business internationally. They don't have proprietary rights over you presenting a concert with candles. They do have rights to the name "Candlelight Concerts." BROADWAY IN LOVE - We had meaningful conversations with orchestra leaders, creatives and administrators about Broadway in Love for orchestras. There are great possibilities on the horizon. It takes a generation to create something new. From the small archipelago of the Bahamas, growing up on the island of Grand Bahama my love of music was always driven based on what I could create. This was brought to life through art and music. Creatvty arts was birthed out of a desire to see Caribbean women and people alike take on leadership roles theough cultivating the next generation of music industry leaders. It is quite often said that the brain drain commonly dwells in third world countries like mines. But I definitely believe that if we extend and cultivate together where music industry deficencies live in our region, we can break barriers we never even imagine and take the music business to another level in my region and globally. https://lnkd.in/eTmZtaAs

A company should be like a music orchestra, where the CEO acts as the conductor, guiding and valuing each talented individual. Just as every musician plays their own instrument, every team member has a unique role. Together, they create a harmonious melody that drives the business forward. In an orchestra, even the soloists are not above the rest of the team. The most beautiful melodies emerge when all musicians respect each other. This respect forms the foundation of effective teamwork, built not just on words but on a deep appreciation of each member's contributions. Similarly, in a company, the CEO must understand and trust the unique skills and value of each team member. The CEO can compose and direct, but it is the collective effort of the team that ensures success. While the conductor may receive applause, a great conductor always acknowledges the musicians. The same principle applies in business: success is a result of mutual respect and trust.
