A Fond Farewell to Scott Blain At the end of this year, we will bid farewell to one of our Principals and the Manawatu Regional Manager, Scott Blain, as he steps into retirement. Scott’s journey with Silvester Clark began in 1987, when the company was known as Ormond Stock Associates. Over the decades, Scott has left a lasting mark on the industry and our team. Scott’s career has been nothing short of remarkable. His work has spanned a wide variety of projects, from designing homes and commercial buildings to leading the structural design of large-scale industrial facilities, including milk powder factories and infant formula plant dryer towers for Fonterra and other clients. Closer to home, Scott’s involvement in significant projects such as the 12-storey Farmers Mutual Building in Palmerston North and seismic assessments throughout the Manawatu region has left a legacy in the local landscape. When asked about his proudest moments, Scott shared that it’s seeing the buildings we create—"real, tangible stuff: concrete, steel, and timber structures"—stand the test of time. He also takes great pride in helping develop the skills of those he’s worked alongside, calling it his "most important professional achievement." Scott’s focus on efficient structural design—balancing compliance, constructability, safety, and cost—has set a benchmark for excellence that inspires us all. As we celebrate Scott’s remarkable career, we thank him for his leadership, expertise, and the legacy he leaves behind. Wishing you all the best in retirement, Scott—you’ve earned it! #silvesterclark #wearesilvesterclark #structuralengineers
Scott, it’s been a real pleasure working with you and the team throughout your accomplished career, sorry I couldn’t make your farewell. Enjoy the next phase…I’m sure it will be a blast
Literally one of the first Engineers I worked with. Congratulations Scott, all the best for retirement.

5dCongratulations Scott. I was lucky to start my career all those years ago with you at OSA. You were always willing to take the time to explain load paths and how the structure was working whenever I asked. I wouldn’t be where I am today without your support in building that foundation to my career. Enjoy retirement!
