The Power of Team Building! At TÜV SÜD, we believe that strong teams are built not just in the office, but through shared experiences that strengthen our connections. Over the years, we’ve organized all sorts of activities – from bowling and day trips to thrilling escape rooms. But one event truly stands out for me: Oktoberfest! Each year, during this world-renowned festival, TÜV SÜD brings employees together for an unforgettable night. We enjoy a traditional dinner, and of course, three “Maß Bier” (or Radler or non-alcoholic options, if you prefer!) What makes this event special isn't just the drinks or the music (although, who can resist singing along to “Sweet Caroline”?). It’s about stepping away from the daily grind, having fun, dancing crazily on the benches, and creating lasting memories with colleagues. And while we love to celebrate, we also live by the motto: "Wer feiern kann, kann auch arbeiten" – those who can party, can also work! Of Forgiveness, Community Gatherings, and Celebrations: Their Relevance to the Corporate World Last weekend, we concluded the 8-day Jain festival Paryushan, and commenced the 10-day festivals of Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam, marking seasons of forgiveness, community, and celebration. Paryushan doesn’t have a greeting like "Happy Paryushan." Instead, we say "Michchami Dukkadam," seeking forgiveness for any hurt caused in the past year. The festival has elements of full or partial fasting and community bonding. Similarly, Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam foster unity and gratitude. These festivals highlight the core values that are equally significant for personal life as well as corporate world. In our fast-paced, often virtual work environments, the corporate 'community / team' gatherings hold transformative potential. Forgiveness is not about others but about clearing your own mental space, letting go of grudges that can poison professional relationships. Forgive, but don't forget. Remember past grievances to shape healthier interactions moving forward (and not to get back at them). Community gatherings like those during Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam can reignite our sense of connection, which has been diluted in the era of remote work. Organizations advocating in-person interactions understand that physical presence fosters a team spirit that virtual meetings cannot replicate. In the spirit of these festivals, bring forgiveness and team interactions into our professional work lives, not just for peace of mind but for effective and joyful collaborations. 🤔 Last week’s dojo.live conversation with Tim Flors, Chief Customer Officer at Groups360, taught me something new! (As does every show, which is just one of the reasons I love my job!) Tim kept mentioning "SMERFs" throughout the show, and I’m sitting there like...wait, Smurfs? The little blue cartoon guys? I know that's not right... so I smiled and nodded. 😂 Turns out, SMERF is a term in hospitality that stands for Social, Military, Educational, Religious, and Fraternal groups. These segments are key drivers in group travel, often booking venues for everything from weddings to reunions. They're unique because they tend to be price-sensitive but super loyal when they find the right fit! Tim highlighted how SMERF groups were actually some of the early adopters of Groups360’s booking technology. According to Tim, "We have certain segments who are quicker to adopt, and SMERF was one of the first early adopters on our platform." So, even these traditionally low-tech groups are jumping on board with tech innovation to simplify bookings and streamline events! The Trade-Off of China's Extended May Day Holiday: In China, the May Day holiday can extend to a full 5-day break, but this comes with a catch: to create this "Golden Week," employees have to give up their weekends before and after the holiday. It seems many of my colleagues and friends aren’t in favor of this arrangement. What’s your view? Do you prefer: 🔹 1: I support the extended holiday! Let us tell you how we are working to make our events as magical and exciting for ALL of our guests. - We are delivering #DisabilityAwareness Training to all of our Sneaky teams this year * Training will include practical scenarios based on our Christmas productions  * The knowledge will be implemented into our Christmas 2024 productions in #Liverpool & #London - We consider how our environment can move barriers, taking extra measures to make both venues step-free.  * At our Liverpool venue, we are building bespoke ramps and doors into our yurts so we can accommodate wheelchairs. * And the good news our London experience at Eltham Palace has a lift, meaning everyone can enjoy the full upstairs & downstairs experience. - We work hard to anticipate our guests access requirements  * Emailing ticket holders in advance to ask how we can support them to ensure a smooth process * Communicating accessibility measures, and details of the performance to ensure guests can plan their day. - Adjusting a number of our event sessions, transforming them into ‘relaxed performances’ at both venues  *Reduced noise, lights and visitors.  *Actors and performance will be adapted as you journey through the magic with us. Working inclusively challenges us to innovate! I’m incredibly proud of the steps our team is taking to make our 2024 Christmas productions in #Liverpool and #London as accessible and enjoyable for all. Key initiatives we’re rolling out this year include: 1️⃣. Delivering #DisabilityAwareness training to our Sneaky teams, focusing on real scenarios from our Christmas shows. 2️⃣ Taking physical accessibility to the next level—installing bespoke ramps and step-free access, as well as installing new, wide access doors in our Christmas yurts in Liverpool, while Eltham Palace in London features a lift to ensure everyone can experience the full magic of both floors. 3️⃣ Offering 'relaxed performances' with adjusted lighting, sound, and visitor numbers to cater to guests who may find standard performances overwhelming. 4️⃣ Proactively communicating with our guests to understand their access needs before they arrive, ensuring a smooth, enjoyable visit for everyone.
