Ftsu is so important, and often demonstrates the importance of listening to your staff. Listening to staff is fundamental to human centred design, and therefore effective risk management and good governance principles.
Today we have published our analysis of the 2023 NHS Staff Survey and what it can tell us about speaking up in the NHS. There has been a decline in workers feeling secure raising concerns about unsafe clinical practice for the second consecutive year. While workers’ confidence in speaking up about anything which concerns them showed signs of improvement, the survey revealed a five-year low in the number of respondents who feel secure raising concerns about unsafe clinical practice. The National Guardian, Dr Jayne Chidgey-Clark, fears for the safety of patients if NHS workers’ concerns are not addressed Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gGfBp85u #NHS #FTSU #PatientSafety

A stark assessment from Rob Behrens CBE, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. He points to reputation management being prioritised over the truth. My far from unique opinion is that telling the truth and showing people what you’re doing is the best form of reputation management. #NHS #health #healthcare #regulation #complaints #whisteblowing https://lnkd.in/epBZrQ4d

You go to hospital, you want to be safe, you fly on a plane you want to be safe, but sadly the news recently is filled with accounts of Staff either being too scared to even raise patient safety issues, or staff at Boeing being ignored or victimised for raising safety concerns. The EU Directive on this topic makes a number of recommendations including the use of anonymous reporting channels to protect the indentity of the staff members. To help ensure safety issues, fraud, bullying and sexual misconduct can be uncovered and addressed. Along side open case reporting and case management, WorkinConfidence provide a 2-way anonymous reporting channel, to give a higher level of psychological safety, to millions of UK staff staying silent on critical issues. Showcasing Best Practice in Integrated Urgent Care: providing outstanding Quality and Safety: NEMS Community Benefit Services - Clinical Management Team. Coming out of the pandemic in 2021, the new (CMT) at NEMS set out to turn around the composition of its workforce mix that had been deteriorating over a number of years. The declared vision was to promote NEMS as a leading organisation, that is supportive and dynamic, and that can nurture and grow their own clinicians into independent practitioners. Amongst others, benefits to NEMS have been to provide more assurance to its clinicians that they have support from clinical colleagues that see NEMS as their long-term home, who are invested in quality and improvements. The changes have undoubtedly further enhanced patient safety.
