We were delighted to welcome James Allison, a first-year A-level student from Steyning Grammar School Day and Boarding Sixth Form College, for a week of work experience at Sigma Homes this July.
James immersed himself in various aspects of the house-building industry, gaining invaluable insights into its many facets. His week was spent both in the office and on site, where he worked closely with our Planning, Commercial, Construction, Sales, Customer Care, and Land teams.
This marks the third consecutive year that Sigma Homes has partnered with local students for work experience, and once again, it was an immensely positive and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
Read this blog from Steffan Beange of emh group where he discusses how he found his career in housing and what customer service means to him.
"To anyone who is currently like I was, at a crossroads and not knowing which direction to take, I would absolutely recommend that you go down the rewarding road of housing."

Here we go... Something I never wanted to post...
Ten years ago, I was released from prison... yes prison... ❌
Young, naive, and caught up with the wrong crowd, I made some serious mistakes. 😥
Ten months after my release, my first child, Rosie, was born - my life saver! At 18, I was terrified. I had no idea how to be a parent, no money, and no clue what to do next.
The Struggles:
❌ Spent 6 months in jail, struggling with authority and discipline.
❌ Involved in fights and idiots, making poor life choices.
❌ Kept my past a secret, fearing judgment and rejection.
The Journey:
🌟 Quickly got an apprenticeship with Crown Vocational Training, thanks to a wonderful lady named Elaine Wardrop - never forgotten.
🌟 Stopped all wrongdoings without hesitation and committed to providing for my daughter and family.
🌟 Ventured into sales positions, particularly in Apprenticeship Recruitment, where I helped hundreds of young adults secure careers.
🌟 Took the leap into the world of #property and #architecture, embracing new challenges and opportunities.
The Achievements:
✅ I have three amazing kids and a beautiful Fiancé.
✅ Recently promoted to General Manager of Design Spec Ltd.
✅ Manoeuvred through sales to management, proving my worth and determination.
✅ Gained several qualifications and certifications, pushing through every obstacle to better myself.
✅ Led successful projects that have positively impacted our community.
✅ Had the courage to finally post this 'diary entry' - this has been a secret forever.
It hasn’t been an easy journey, and I’ve faced a lot of challenges along the way but these all make me who I am today and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Embrace the change, it's normally for the better. 🌟

stop accepting work at low ball prices, if you can't make a fair living as a master or apprentice in your trade, stop doing it. carpenters build homes yet most never can afford to live in one, primarily they can't even feed their families. the tradesman is the backbone in America. Don't undervalue our tradesman, by not accepting jobs with unacceptable pay. your making it hard for all of us. demand fair price or get out nothing will change unless you have self respect and respect for fellow tradesman. starving and struggling with every aspect in life bc of financial problems is disrespectful, price cutting and help stealing are business. watch eventually there will be almost no one left with any knowledge. it's simple to understand that actually will effect price in time in our favor. bc the young generation isn't interested in working hard generally, we will run out of the young stupid and desperate enough to take it. you need to instill these ideas, life will be awesome for all of us. think about it.
"Highland discovered that students had a specific interest in the auto body career path. Highland sought community partnerships to assist in creating and implementing an out-of-school time program to support this student-identified career path."
Congrats to Highland High School on receiving a major investment into their auto body program! This is sure to help students enter into #CollisionRepair as they work to fulfill auto body technician career pathways.

Birmingham.
Many a year of my career was spent in this city, and I learned an awful lot in those years.
You take learns from the good, and the not so good times, and they mould you.
Those learns have enabled me to progress, and develop my career into where I am today.
It was good to be back, I feel a little nostalgic.

Reflecting on a recent conversation between David Broom and Greg Bloom has reminded me of the unique and often unexpected paths that lead us into the roofing industry.
David mentioned his father, who worked in the roofing industry for over four decades, and how, despite speaking fondly about it, he initially had no interest in joining the field. "It's not glamorous," as Greg aptly put it.
Greg picked up the conversation, sharing his own journey.
He took a summer job with Allied Building Products Corp., initially seeing it as just a temporary gig. This summer job, between his junior and senior years in college, involved hard labor—loading roofs, cleaning warehouses, and learning the ropes of the roofing supply business.
Greg's journey, from these humble beginnings to becoming a key figure in the industry, is truly inspiring. It highlights how roofing, while not always glamorous from the outside, offers incredible opportunities for growth and development once you're inside.
The industry is built on hard work, dedication, and the willingness to seize unexpected opportunities.
For anyone considering a career in roofing, or for those already in the industry, Greg's story serves as a powerful reminder of the potential that lies within our field. It's about more than just the physical labor—it's about the people, the community, and the chance to build something lasting.
I'm committed to continuing to share these stories through the #PeopleMakeRoofing campaign, to showcase the long-lasting careers and incredible opportunities available in our industry. These stories not only inspire but also highlight the diverse and rewarding paths that a career in roofing can offer.
