Government of India in talks with Saudi Authorities for Refineries in Gujarat (Earlier Maharashtra was considered) and Andhra Pradesh. Capacity will be around 10-15 million tonnes (annual), along with petrochemical Facilities. Due to such deal Saudi will be able to sell its crude oil to India, which was currently decreased over the years. Saudi Arabia's national oil company (Saudi Aramco) will partner with ONGC for Gujarat refinery and with BPCL for Andhra Pradesh refinery. Gujarat already has 3 oil refineries (Two in Jamnagar and one in Vadodara). Why Maharashtra is not likely to get such project? -Land acquisition is slow due to resistance from locals. 💡"Swarna Sindhu," the first oil taker from the KG Project by ONGC, is introduced by PM Modi. ⏩Narendra Modi launched "Swarna Sindhu," transporting the first cargo of crude oil from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's (ONGC) recently completed Krishna Godavari deep-water project, on March 2. This marked a significant turning point for India's #energyindustry . ⏩The crude oil would be transported by oil tanker from the deep waters of the Bay of Bengal to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited MRPL, an ONGC affiliate. On January 7, the state-owned oil firm began producing oil from the deep-water KG-DWN 98/2 block in the Krishna Godavari (KG) basin off the coast of Kakinada, near the Bay of Bengal. ⏩With a floating #production and storage offloading (FPSO) installed in water depths exceeding 430 metres, the field is currently producing between 12,000 and 12,500 barrels of oil per day. When the extracted oil reaches a critical level, it is kept on the FPSO and then transported to a ship that transports it to a refinery on the coast where it is converted into fuels like petrol and diesel. The largest floating installation in the Indian subcontinent is the FPSO unit, Armada Sterling V, which was developed, engineered, and is now being managed by SHAPOORJI PALLONJI ENERGY (GUJARAT) PRIVATE LIMITED (SP Energy). ⏩The KG basin, which was developed at a cost of more than Rs 41,000 crore, is among the most #technologically demanding undertakings ever undertaken. Because of the challenging subaquatic topography and non-human conditions at deeper depths, the basin presented special technical hurdles. It is anticipated that the 98/2 field will produce approximately 45,000 barrels of oil and over 10 million metric standard cubic metres of petrol per day at its peak. ⏩This project will increase India's oil and gas production by 7% each at peak production, reducing the country's reliance on LNG and crude imports. The project's success opens #avenues for Indian companies to enter the $20 billion global FPSO market and lowers India's yearly import cost by up to $3.5 billion. Mockery: HPCL's Barmer Refinery! 📛📛 The foundation stone of the Rs 38k crore project was laid by Sonia Gandhi in 2013, and completion target was set for 2018. But guess, what, the construction activity began in 2018. Worse, the deadline has been moved thrice under present Govt's watch as well. Just last year, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the project will go live by July 2023. Then it was moved to Dec 2023. Then to some time in 2024. And now the Chairman of HPCL says, the the refining unit of the complex will go live in Dec of 2024, but the petrochem unit will take longer. Worse, even though the refining unit will go live in Dec 2024, it will take another year or so to reach its full capacity. .. And guess, what? The project cost has soared to Rs 78k crore. No one knows where it will go by the time the full project will actually be complete. And no, HPCL management is not to be blamed here. .. The problem is inter-Govt rivalry! The massive project is being executed under a JV between HPCL & Rajasthan Govt. And as the project cost soared (primarily due to surge in prices of commodities like cement, steel etc), the disagreement on funding of the same grew. While HPCL was ready to invest more and get the project to fruition. But, as per media reports, Rajasthan Govt insisted that HPCL should be footing in more, and that led to major delays. .. Now finally, the project is being completed with a fresh Rs 4,785 crore loan raised from the Govt-owned Rural Electrification Corporation (REC). One can only hope, that having a BJP Govt in the state will help get the project to fruition 😓😓 ..
