🔹 Let’s talk about a topic that doesn’t get enough airtime: the silent struggles of those we often overlook. A wise soul recently shared, “It's been 35 years. And I still hurt every day from it.” This goes to show that ignoring the emotional turmoil doesn’t make it disappear. Here’s what we need to consider: - Millions of women are affected, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. - Fathers face their own quiet battles, often left behind and forgotten. - The ripple effects of these issues are immense, touching whole communities. It's time we bridge the gap in our discussions and acknowledge every story, every voice. Isn't it time we listen more and speak up for those silenced too long? 💬 Share your thoughts below. #SocialAwareness #EmotionalWellbeing #CommunitySupport #SilentStruggles #EmpathyInBusiness #InclusiveConversations

Government's Role in Promoting Equality vs. Military Spending In today's complex world, the balancing act between promoting social equality and maintaining robust military capabilities is more relevant than ever. On one hand, investing in equality initiatives can lead to a more just and cohesive society, where opportunities are accessible to all, and the social fabric is strengthened. On the other hand, a strong military is essential for national security, protecting our freedoms, and ensuring peace through deterrence. The debate isn't about choosing o

The proposed law aims to make military conscription mandatory for women, aligning their obligations with those of men. This initiative seeks to promote gender equality and bolster national defense capabilities. The legislation has sparked considerable debate, with proponents arguing that it ensures equal responsibility and broadens the talent pool for the military. Opponents, however, raise concerns about the impact on women's rights, family dynamics, and the potential for increased opposition to compulsory service. The proposal reflects broader societal discussions on gender roles and equality. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Clare Hutchinson I hear you very well. I've been dedicated to pushing for gender equality and the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda for the past two decades. Over a decade ago, we were all excited about new resolutions and NAPs on WPS and, more recently, by more NAPs and policies. But let's be real—implementation is still dragging, and the funding needed to bring these plans to life is pretty minimal, including in EU countries. Feminist movements are gaining strength, especially on social media, but there’s also a downside. The risk of being co-opted by big international organizations is higher now than ever, which can water down the real impact of these movements. As we continue this journey, it's more important than ever to stay focused and make sure that our push for gender equality and WPS leads to real, tangible change.
I have worked on WPS for over 25 years and have seen the ebb and flow of commitment and interest, some genuine and some cosmetic. I have watched in horror violence perpetrated against women and also with pride at the increased voices and presence of women in political and decision making positions. I am in awe of women who risk their lives in conflicts both military and civilian and women defenders of rights who make us all reflect on our own moral relevancy. It is therefore so hard to hear, that despite the commitments, speeches and 'support', we have to remind nations of the importance of this agenda and push to make sure that WPS is still included in transitioning missions. Seriously! This is just not good enough - and as we move in the 25th year of the WPS agenda we must do better. Less plans, more action and absolutely more accountability.

The speech by UN Human Rights Chief 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐤 at the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council is indeed inspiring and direct, encouraging action for a just world by emphasizing the importance of human rights as a safeguard against unchecked power and conflict. The speech effectively highlights a critical global issue:- the necessity of political leadership in making human rights a reality. The message urges governments to prioritize human rights during escalating global conflicts. The emphasis on human rights as a safeguard against bleak futures is particularly compelling, offering a powerful call to action for peace, sustainability, and responsible leadership.
“Human rights are not in crisis. But political leadership needed to make them a reality is.” — United Nations Human Rights chief Volker Türk calls on Governments to urgently put human rights at the core of all policy and action, embracing and trusting them as the path towards a more peaceful, just, fair and sustainable world. Speaking at the opening of the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council at United Nations Office at Geneva, Volker Türk stressed that the ‘new normal’ cannot be endless, vicious military escalation and increasingly horrifying, technologically-advanced methods of warfare, control and repression. “We can either continue on our current path —a treacherous ‘new normal’— and sleepwalk into a dystopian future. Or we can wake up and turn things around for the better, for humanity and the planet,” added the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
