Do you get to work from home? How often? Last week, I was talking with Trish L. and she mentioned that I have been doing a good job at including the work from home employees in our FreightVana actvities. Thank you for the feedback Trish! It means alot because its not easy! As someone who’s experienced its perks and pitfalls, it's important to have an honest conversation about the pros and cons I've experienced. The Upside: 1. Remote work is great when you are not feeling your best. Since I struggle with anxiety it's nice to not have to put on my "mask" and just get things done. 2. It reduces my spending, from the commute, food at home instead of ordering out, and adding more hours to my day. 3. You can explore broader choices, you can work for jobs outside your neighborhood, or state. 4. I can take naps during my lunch, which reenergizes me for that 3pm slump. 5. Using my own bathroom hahaha The Flip Side: 1. If I work from home too many days, I feel isolated from the group. Lack of face-to-face interaction makes it more difficult to have those "water cooler" conversations. 2. Depending on the person, it might be difficult to stop working. Some are always "on". Which reduces work/life balance. 3. Depending on your circumstance it might not seem fair to other collegues. I have a hard time with this one as I don't have kids or other major responsibilities but still think my time is valuable. (I know I don't understand because I dont have kids). 4. My family is loud and having that quiet space can be difficult at times. 5. I am a visual learner, so in my onboarding training I felt more comfortable being in person than online.
