This is meaningful innovation that I enthousiastically applaud: A small strap that marks a big step forward. Congratulations to HighBar. Does it mark a further rise of the independent tech licencing model (long trusted in rear suspension tech, for example) into cycling softgoods? Helmet straps are a surefire Archilles Heel we all just seemed to tolerate. I hope this move will fuel a market wide updating of bike helmets, and believe this innovation will have staying power comparible to dial and ratchet head diameter fit systems on a market level, which quickly overtook old pop button ring and variable thickness foam cushion systems. This small but major change will benefit consumers. A concerning amount of users set straps up badly, to the point of relegating the helmet useless in a crash as it will roll off. I'm glad someone decided to tackle this functional and fitting issue. Sure, the careless will let this new strap dangle too, but the clueless will now have a much easier time in finding a safe fit. This potential market shift could benefit brands, if they respond properly. Helmet manufacturers should see this as a major opportunity to offer a brand-owned competitive advantage, but the clock might well start ticking (loudly) for them to respond if this takes off and becomes another cycling "hoover" where the initial innovation brands' solution stands above in-house alternatives. Let's be honest: for the last decade, one single anti-rotational tech company has held a monopolistic grip on consumer's quality perception of a helmet (and owned a notable portion of their partner brands' cost to manufacture). The owner of that tech played their cards *very* well when it hit hard and wide with its safety message in the early 00's. Will this become another obligatory licencing franchise? In MTB frames for example, rear suspension tech (DW, Maestro, CVA, Horst, etc) sits equal in perception to brand, be it independent or house owned. But in helmets, one could argue that tech licencing entities might be gaining an upper hand. Ill be looking for a solution like this next helmet upgrade. Even if as a "quiverfull" bike enthousiast, I'm happy with my current collection of Road, XC, Trail, AM and speed pedelec helmets. It only takes one fall to require their replacement. Also, congrats to Canyon Bicycles GmbH for this move qbd their previous audacity to try the double decker bar concept. Those that dare... eventually find a winner.

Thoughts on the design of the LeMond Dutch e-bike: Inviting. Simple. Fun. With other brands pushing raw horsepower and motorcycle throttles, we set out to design the Dutch with a completely different priority - the simple pleasure of riding a bike. Our goals were simple: - Had to be beautiful as a bicycle first. The fact that it has electric assist is nearly invisible. - Clean forms that are inviting to cyclists and non-cyclists alike. Too many bikes are intimidating to even seasoned cyclists these days. - Light weight. Like really light weight. 27 lbs. / 12.2 kg. That's less than half the weight of most e-bikes. Carbon fiber is an amazing material. This isn't a bike for someone wanting motorcycle-level wattage, or wanting to check their e-mail on integrated screens. It's for those who want to remember the simple pleasure of riding a bike, with as much or as little electric assist as desired. I think we nailed it, but I suppose I'm rather biased. The Evolution of Bicycles- Part I The "Draisine" or "Laufmaschine," also known as the "running machine" , is credited as the precursor to the modern bicycle. Invented by Karl Draisine, a German baron, in 1817, it was a two-wheeled vehicle propelled by the rider pushing their feet along the ground, rather than using pedals or a chain drive like modern bicycles. The Draisine consisted of a wooden frame mounted on two wheels, with a handlebar for steering. The rider straddled the frame and propelled themselves forward by pushing against the ground with their feet, while steering with the handlebar. It relied on the rider's balance and coordination to maintain stability and control. Although the Draisine was not as efficient or practical as later pedal-driven bicycles, it marked a significant advancement in personal transportation. It provided a means for individuals to travel greater distances more quickly than walking, and it gained popularity in Europe during the early 19th century. The concept of the Draisine laid the foundation for further innovations in bicycle design, eventually leading to the development of the pedal-driven bicycle with a chain drive, which greatly improved efficiency and ease of use. Nonetheless, the Draisine remains an important milestone in the history of transportation, representing the first step towards the modern bicycle.
