Thanks Matt Hall for coming to the workshop on "Allyship in leading for equity" that Dan Brown and I offered at EARCOS. Yes its been quite a brutla and slow journey of becoming more aware of the breaches that have led to the priviledge I enjoy today and a slow and thoughtful process of reflecting how to be helpful and not harmful in my work at Leadership Lab NZ. Heres the 4 questions we offered to the group in the workshop that others might find useful in their journey of critical awareness. "Recall a life experience where… 1) …you became acutely aware of inequity and privilege? What effect did it have on you? 2) … where you noticed inequity appear in your school? 3) … you regretted missing an opportunity to step bravely into a space of allyship 4) … you had an opportunity to advocate on behalf of others and did so? The book you recommended looks powerful....By the way - did you mean Aotearoa is the islands where you grew up or were you referring to England? https://lnkd.in/geQbtKb2 #collectiveimpact #equityandinclusion
A thought-provoking three days at the annual East Asia Regional Council of Schools conference with Kathryn Hemming, re-uniting our regular conference wing-folk of Angie Browne and Russell Speirs. As always, the learning and connections often takes place in the spaces 'in between' the formalities. So it was great to have so many varied conversations with Dr. Ryan Persaud, Olivia Roth, Dan Brown Jason Hoppner, Jacob Martin, Tia Court-Smith, Duncan Stonehouse Sarah Hay Andrew Pearce amongst many others. And thanks to Ulcca Joshi Hansen Terence Bostic Rami Madani Chelsea Armstrong Kimberly Clark Chris Jansen Jane Larsson Ji Han (and many many others) for sharing their wisdom and insight so generously in workshops. Too many takeaways to list here, but I was most moved by hearing about the work that Chris Jansen has undertaken to better understand his socialisation and place in the historical context of colonialism in Aotearoa and I've realised I have a lot more to learn about the island I grew up on (UK). So as I board my flight back to London, I make a start. Looking forward to seeing more colleagues FOBISIA's annual conference back in Bangkok in a couple of weeks. 🇹🇭

So today is my final day of sabbatical, and I head into the office again tomorrow for several meetings. During my sabbatical my main research project was https://lnkd.in/g-3X5jQc - with a complementary study that I'm currently writing up with my co-author. We were also able to secure some funding, and have just started data collection on a follow-up study. Additionally, over the past six months I've also been able to: - publish one journal article; - have three journal articles and one book chapter accepted or in press; - have six more journal manuscripts either with co-authors or a couple of good writing days away from submitting; - present or co-present five international conference presentations; - presented five webinars and am scheduled to present three more webinars; and - secured funding to produce the seventeenth State of the Nation: K-12 e-Learning in Canada annual study. A productive six-month sabbatical in my mind.

We invite you to join the second Erasmus Salon, which will continue a series of events organised by the European University Foundation, the European Students Union, and the Erasmus Student Network, focusing on the recognition of learning periods abroad. 🗺️ The event will take place at the ESN/EUF Office in 📍Rue Joseph II 120 from 18:00 to 20:00 on the 2nd of May, with an informal after-work format and some food and drinks provided by the organisers. In this second Erasmus Salon, we will delve into a crucial theme in learning mobility - Recognition of Learning Periods Aboards. The findings from the XV ESNsurvey reveal that recognition of credit mobility stands as one of the most significant challenges confronting students today. 👨🎓📝The theme of this Erasmus Saloon could not come at a more key time with the launch of the Proposal for a Council Recommendation on a European quality assurance and recognition system in higher education, following the ambitious proposal of the European Degree blueprint. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dDNwgAkj

"O professor é, naturalmente, um artista, mas ser um artista não significa que ele ou ela consiga formar o perfil, possa moldar os alunos. O que um educador faz no ensino é tornar possível que os estudantes se tornem eles mesmos. " Paulo Freire "The teacher is naturally an artist, but being an artist does not mean that they can form the profile, that they can mold learners. What an educator does during the teaching and learning process is to make it possible for learners to become themselves." Paulo Freire The premise of the conference is to bring international educators together, to share experiences, form networks and contribute to a range of inspirational workshops and keynotes. We are opening this conference to all schools!

I teach a Conference and Convention class to PRTM Undergraduates at Clemson University. We put on an actual virtual national conference. This years conference will be held on Wednesday afternoon October 30th, 2024. There will be four amazing national speakers addressing the following topics. 1) What you should know pertaining to money, finance, and economic impact for your first real interview. 2) With so many new "tools" to use, what will be the future of marketing in PRTM. 3) How different will PRTM be 20 years from now compared to what it was like 20 years ago. This will include the drastic changes in Event Planning. (That is not a long time!!!) 4) How do we in PRTM change the game in Tourism, from fun places for the wealthy, to meaningful tourism for everyone. (Fun is okay also!!) The Conference is primarily for PRTM students, but it is open to anyone, especially young professionals in the field. You will be hearing from us.
