🎄 Christmas Party Reflections 🎄 So, I’m at this festive holiday party, enjoying the vibe, when the company starts recognizing employees who’ve been there 15, 20, 25+ years. Naturally, I’m impressed, but also curious—what makes someone stay that long? Curiosity got the best of me, so I hopped on LinkedIn to check out one of the honorees. Their title? Client Coordinator—the same role for decades. Without judging (seriously, no shade), I couldn’t help but wonder: Is this a generational thing? It’s fascinating to me how people in the 45–65 age group tend to stick with one company—often in the same role—for most of their career. Contrast that with Millennials and Gen Z, who are all about climbing ladders, switching industries, and reinventing themselves. So, what’s driving this difference? So I walked into a coffeeshop this week with a friend and got a hot drink, chatting away. What was a bit unusual? We are nowhere close in age. Obviously, that’s not important to us. We’re neighbors and we have great conversations. Regardless of age, as people we’re both interested in home renovation (she is so talented!), career projects, travel, and more. It’s not the first coffeeshop we’ve visited. ➡️ I see many posts encouraging more dialogue between generations. CoGenerate and Generations Working Together are two groups active in this work. Applause! 👏 Generations Working Together is now carrying out Global Intergenerational Week, in fact. Programs are great but communication is carried out person-to-person. In your life, how about just saying hi 👋 to a “person” and not to a demographic category based on age alone? ➡️ I see posts about blending work teams that include multiple generations. Really? The highest-performing teams I’ve worked on have been multigenerational. We did not care about someone’s birthdate. We cared about pooling our talents and getting a ton of work done. 👍 How about hiring based on skills instead of age alone?
