Wise words from Edmund Burke: "The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse." Holding those in power accountable is a responsibility we all share — and a critical step in fighting against abuse in all its forms. #ChildAbusePrevention #SHIELDTaskForce #QuoteOfTheDay"

As DC Council considers additional legislation, it’s worth revisiting recommendations made during October’s Council Roundtable. Bandaids won’t end gun violence. Reverting back to harmful past policies won’t bring lasting peace. We must implement a comprehensive plan for violence reduction with solid investments in prevention and intervention. Everyone deserves to be safe in DC. Let’s be honest with ourselves about what it’s going to take to make it happen. https://lnkd.in/eEe5PA7X

The ongoing cycle of violence in black communities, particularly among young men 18-35, is deeply troubling and, in many ways, difficult to explain. Yet, for those who become victims or perpetrators, the circumstances surrounding their lives often seem to provide a justification to perpetuate this destructive cycle. Research shows that systemic inequalities, poverty, and exposure to trauma contribute to this ongoing violence. According to the National Network for Safe Communities, community violence intervention (CVI) strategies, such as street outreach programs (Indy Peace, CBO’s), have proven effective in reducing shootings and homicides by up to 60% in certain cities . It is essential that we continue to fight to save our young men, offering them alternatives and breaking the cycle that traps them long before they even have a chance to live fully. Addressing this issue requires a collective commitment to dismantling the systemic roots of violence and implementing proven CVI strategies that create lasting change. #Theworkisnotfinished
To date I’ve lost 17 kids to gun violence in the last 5 years. The pain from this work is a lot but I also know this is my purpose. I and many others have had this conversation multiple times and I commend these young men for being vulnerable about their pain. Please listen and put all of your judgement to the side.

We Must Stop Making Excuses for Rape. It's Never Acceptable.🙅❌ GBV is a global crisis, and the horrific reality is that rape is becoming increasingly prevalent. We must call out this violence for what it is: a brutal act of power and control, never justified by circumstances or the victim's actions. There are no excuses for rape. It is never the victim's fault. Blaming the victim, minimizing the severity of the crime, or offering "defensive" reasons for the perpetrator's actions only perpetuates a culture of silence and enables further violence. We must stand together to: Believe survivors: Listen to their stories without judgment and offer support. Hold perpetrators accountable: Demand justice and ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law. Challenge harmful narratives: Reject harmful stereotypes and dismantle the culture of victim-blaming. 🙏Let's work together to create a world where everyone feels safe and respected, and where rape is never tolerated. #GBV #EndGBV #RapeIsNeverOK #BelieveSurvivors #JusticeForSurvivors #NoExcuses #EndRapeCulture

Excellent progress
I was honoured to have been elected as an officer on the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Domestic Violence and Abuse yesterday. It's a vital group that has an important role to play in our mission to halve VAWG within a decade.
