In just 29 days, the #Philippines was struck by six devastating tropical cyclones, displacing over 1.4 million people. At ShelterBox, we’re expanding our response to meet the growing needs. Our team in the Philippines is in the affected area, providing support to the people impacted by both Storm Trami and Super Typhoon Pepito. We’re partnering with organisations like FACE Inc., to distribute emergency supplies like tarpaulins, tools, and solar lights - but we can’t stop there. The Philippines faces repeated disasters, leaving communities no time to recover before the next one. We must act now to prepare, protect, and help these communities before storm hits. Help us break the cycle of disaster. We need your help to make sure no one is left without shelter when disaster strikes. #TyphoonSeason #EmergencyResponse #SeasonOfGiving #ShelterBoxUSA

As the nation celebrates 248 years of independence, hundreds of people are still recovering from devastating flooding in northwest Iowa and deadly wildfires in New Mexico. Our teams remain on the ground in both states, doing all they can to provide comfort and support to those in need. With the help of partners and over 440 disaster responders, we’ve been able to: - Provide over 5,000 overnight stays in shelters. - Distribute more than 60,100 meals and snacks and over 13,000 relief supplies. - Complete over 175 reunification requests for missing loved ones. Although people have begun their recovery, severe weather continues to threaten these communities. Recent thunderstorms in New Mexico have led to flooding and landslides in the region, while northwest Iowa faces a storm system that could cause more flash flooding. With intense disasters happening more frequently due to the climate crisis, it’s essential to have an emergency plan, stay informed about the weather, and know where to go if you need to evacuate and seek shelter.

The US is currently facing multiple natural disasters, affecting millions. Over 75 million people are under heat alerts due to extreme temperatures, posing risks to the elderly and children. Tornado emergencies in Michigan, Nebraska, and Iowa, along with severe storms and flooding in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, are causing power outages and property damage. Florida faces significant flooding, impacting tens of thousands, while Hawaii is dealing with severe storms, flooding, and landslides. Additionally, 17 large wildfires across multiple states have led to evacuation orders and health risks from smoke. To stay safe, residents should heed heat warnings, follow severe weather alerts, avoid floodwaters, and adhere to evacuation orders for wildfires. Community support is crucial: check on vulnerable neighbors, donate to disaster relief efforts, and volunteer locally. Stay informed and proactive to navigate these challenging times. To all my international friend community out there!!! Help Us Save and Rebuild Lives in Flood-Ravaged Myanmar In the wake of the devastating floods sweeping across Myanmar, entire communities have been left homeless, vulnerable, and in desperate need of help. Torrential rains, made worse by the remnants of Typhoon Yagi, have triggered severe flooding in multiple regions across the country, including central Myanmar, Naypyidaw, and Mandalay. Millions of people have been affected, with over 100 lives lost and counting. In some areas, homes are submerged up to the rooftops, leaving families stranded and without basic necessities such as food, clean water, and shelter. Entire towns have been cut off due to damaged infrastructure, making rescue operations challenging. The impact has been catastrophic: thousands of homes, schools, and hospitals are underwater, and critical transportation routes, including train services, have been halted. As water levels continue to rise in rivers like the Ayeyarwady, more regions are at risk of further flooding. Families have been displaced, forced to take refuge in monasteries and schools, and their future remains uncertain. Our mission is to rally international support to provide immediate relief and long-term recovery for the victims of this disaster. With your generous donations, we will be able to: Provide emergency supplies such as food, water, clothing, and medical aid to displaced families. Support rescue operations and ensure that those stranded in hard-hit areas receive the help they need. Help rebuild homes, schools, and essential infrastructure in affected areas. Ensure long-term recovery efforts, enabling communities to rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience. Myanmar has long faced war and economic challenges, and this natural disaster has only worsened the plight of its people. But we believe in the power of global compassion and solidarity. Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it the most. How You Can Help: 1. Donate: Every dollar counts. Your support will go directly to providing life-saving aid and recovery efforts for flood victims. 2. Share: Help us spread the word! Share this campaign with your network to bring attention to the urgent needs of Myanmar’s flood victims. 3. Support: Engage with us on social media and keep the conversation going to increase awareness about the crisis in Myanmar. Together, we can rebuild homes, restore hope, and show the people of Myanmar that they are not alone. You can donate here: https://lnkd.in/eBGXqrhX Thank you for your compassion and support. September is National Disaster Preparedness Month, what's your shelter plan? In some emergencies, staying put is the safest choice. Know your best and safest options BEFORE you need to choose. 🛟 Identify safe shelter locations both at home and in your community 🏠 Know where the safest spots are for natural disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes, or earthquakes (e.g., a basement, an interior room with no windows) 👮 If shelters become necessary, local authorities will inform you where to go And remember, threat levels can change quickly during a natural disaster. ALWAYS plan for multiple scenarios and options. #DisasterPreparednessMonth #DisasterPreparedness

Important Reminder: Human Trafficking Prevention During Natural Disasters In light of recent news that 92 people are still missing in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene, we are reminded of the unfortunate reality that natural disasters often increase vulnerability to human trafficking. Disasters create chaos and displacement, which traffickers can exploit to target those in precarious situations. Strengthening our efforts to detect and prevent trafficking during and after disasters is crucial in protecting vulnerable populations. Let's use our platforms to raise awareness and take proactive steps to help combat this issue. 📢 Recent update on Hurricane Helene and missing persons: NBC News Articlehttps://lnkd.in/gkcDR3bU 📰 https://lnkd.in/gkm74Ha7 #AML #HumanTraffickingPrevention #NaturalDisasters #Compliance #FinancialCrimes #RiskManagement

My heart goes out to all my colleagues, friends and their families in the Eastern Caribbean who were affected by Hurricane Beryl. Natural disasters increase the risk of human trafficking in several ways: 1) Increased vulnerability - internally displaced persons, especially women and children, are at higher risk of exploitation due to their vulnerable situations. 2) Breakdown of social structures: disruption of community and family networks, leaving individuals without support systems. 3) Economic hardship: The economic fallout from disasters can push individuals into desperate situations, making them more susceptible to traffickers’ promises of work or financial stability. Hurricane Beryl decimated many fishing vessels and tourist establishments in Carriacou, Grenada 4) Law enforcement challenges: In the chaos following a disaster, law enforcement and social services may be overwhelmed, reducing their ability to prevent and respond to trafficking. 5) Disruption of education: School closures can leave children unsupervised and more vulnerable to traffickers. So, what can be done to reduce vulnerabilities and build resilience: -Provide immediate humanitarian assistance and support services - safe shelters, psychological support, legal aid, and economic opportunities to disaster survivors -Ensure the presence of law enforcement or some type of security and safety -Maintain family reunification services to protect at-risk individuals. To achieve the above, a country would need to collaborate with other governments, NGOs, and international organizations to address both immediate and long-term needs following a disaster.

Over the past two weeks, the residents and response teams in Ruidoso, New Mexico, have faced intense challenges as they combat the devastating wildfires. The South Fork and Salt fires have scorched more than 25,500 acres in New Mexico, forcing as many as 8,000 people to evacuate and destroying nearly 1,400 structures, which may include 500 homes, according to state officials. The remarkable stories of volunteers and evacuees coming together in the face of adversity have been truly inspiring. The way our community mobilized bringing volunteers from near and far is a powerful testament to the human spirit. But our work is far from over, and Red Cross will continue to be here to support and uplift those affected as we rebuild and recover. Here's a glimpse of our work on the ground to date: - 185+ Red Cross disaster workers from all over the U.S. are responding and helping people recover. - 1.8K+ overnight stays have been provided for people who were forced to evacuate their homes. - 18.2K+ meals and snacks have been distributed in shelters and disaster-impacted areas with partners. - 160+ reunification requests have been supported from families and friends looking for loved ones. Our disaster teams will help assess the damage so that we can continue to meet the evolving needs of these communities in the days and weeks ahead.
