Last week at the #CMXSummit in San Francisco, I had the distinct pleasure of delving deep into the evolving world of community engagement. As an attendee, the energy was palpable—from the main stage to the buzzing networking sessions, every moment was a learning opportunity. The privilege of interacting face-to-face with pioneering thinkers and enthusiastic #communitybuilders added a rich layer to my understanding of how strategic community engagement can truly transform businesses. I am especially grateful for the thought-provoking discussions and the wealth of knowledge shared by everyone present. Walking away with a plethora of resources, including insightful community-focused books and reports, has been invaluable. A special thank you to the authors and researchers like Susie Wise, Kasley Killam, MPH, Kim Scott, Martin Carcasson, Ruth D., Molli Aronce, DeMario Bell. Your contributions are shaping our practices and perspectives. Reflecting on this year's summit, the critical role of community in business was underscored repeatedly. It's clear that community is not just about #belonging —it's about engaging actively and contributing in ways that make every member feel vital to the whole. I'm a big fan of and active user on Collaborate. On a daily basis I check out what's happening in this online community for association professionals. I get answers and responses to my requests and learn greatly from other threads. I have definitely connected with association executives I would not have known otherwise, and I get more value from my ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership membership because of it. I highly recommend the use of this platform. How do you use Collaborate? Or what other online communities are you finding value in?

I'm really proud of what we've built at Counselwell. Here's how we did in November: ✅ Revenue increased 18% since October. However, November was our third lowest revenue month of the year. Based on December projections we are unlikely to hit 100% year over year growth. But we'll get pretty darn close! ✅ We hit 300 members! We're throwing a holiday party tomorrow at Fasken to celebrate this massive milestone ✅ We hosted successful events in Toronto and Montreal thanks to partners like Peter Simeon at Gowling WLG, Vincent de l'Étoile at Langlois Avocats, Gary Volman at Aird & Berlis LLP, Rishi Dhir at WTW, and Katy Pitch and Brad Tartick at Mintz ✅ We quietly launched a US tier of membership, starting at just $100/year ✅ We secured multiple sponsorships for Summit 2025 (September 2025 in Toronto) ✅ We surpassed last year's submissions on our 2025 in-house lawyer salary survey, in partnership with ZSA Canada Goals to close out the year: 🎯 Administer our PeerMatch program for Jan-Mar '25, by matching our members with each other in mentor-mentee or peer-peer relationships 🎯 Figure out how to enhance the community experience 🎯 Secure more partnerships for Q1 and Q2 🎯 Publish at least 1 more US event 🎯 Welcome another 10-15 new members 🎯 Host our final events of the year in Toronto and Vancouver, with Fasken (Marc Shewchun), Gardiner Roberts LLP (Zev Zlotnick), and Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP (Michelle McKinnon) 🎯 Begin analyzing data on our salary survey after we close submissions on December 19th 🎯 Finalize revenue and expense projections for 2025 🎯 Think about bringing on an executive to help scale
