This year, The Shaw Group Texas team came together to support Christmas for The Least of These, a remarkable organization that partners with Child Protective Services and corporate sponsors to bring holiday joy to foster children across 23 counties in East Texas. Our team was privileged to fulfill holiday wish lists for children of all ages, from babies to teenagers. It's an honor to contribute to a meaningful cause and spread holiday cheer to those who need it most. #holidaywishlist #community

Did you know? The numbers are staggering, and it's time to raise awareness! In the United States, one in three children will experience interactions with the foster care system by adulthood. Shockingly, for Black children, it's one in two. These statistics highlight the urgent need for support and change in our communities. At Snohomish County CASA, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of these children. Our dedicated advocates work tirelessly to provide a voice for those who need it most. Let's come together, raise awareness, and be the change these statistics desperately need. Share this post, spread awareness, and let's build a future where every child has the love and stability they deserve. #FosterCareAwareness #Blackhistorymonth #BeTheChange #RaiseAwareness #MakeADifference #EveryChildMatters #SnohomishcountyCASA #CASA #Snohomishcounty

A pitch to pitch in this #NationalFosterCareMonth! Children that happen to have contact with the foster care system are a) #children and b) children equally deserving of care and support in a #family unit. Some need temporary support, others need more, but each of them in their own way contribute to the champions that partner with them. And there is something everyone can do to pitch in to the solution. In the abundance of our existence, it is a travesty that the brilliance of some children is dimmed through no fault of their own. Worst, the internalization of this neglect sometimes leads to cerebral and mental health degeneration that compounds over time. Ways to help one or more foster care children - 1. There are about 3.5 million households in LA County. About 30,000 children, plus or minus, in foster care, a fraction of them in search of adoption. Of the 3.5 million households, if you are a household that can provide a loving environment, consider learning more about adoption with an organization like Hillsides. 2. Adopting isn't the only way to help. Consider learning more about being a resource family for a foster care child that needs a temporary accommodation. 3. You can help in other ways, too. You can be part of all those success stories you see and hear about in the news! Can your work team or school sponsor a drive to gather new toiletries or coats or duffel bags that will go to an organization supporting foster care youth? Can your family or friend group commit to gathering $100 worth of pre-teen or teen related fun items (like board games, journals, gift cards) to offer a sense of normalcy during the holidays? Can you donate your hard-earned money to an organization like Hillsides toward the eventual success story of one of these children? Giving is one of the most fulfilling acts. However it is you have thought about pitching in, if you haven't or haven't in a while - I encourage you to get involved today! Learn more at hillsides.org/get-involved

How to prevent Black kids from becoming stuck in foster care On average, Black children spend longer in foster care than white children. Black youth are also more likely than white youth to age out of foster care without a family. Despite caring social workers and extended families trying their best to help, these youth often grow up in a system that cannot meet their needs. And their needs are considerable: Kids from low-income neighborhoods, especially Black kids, experience higher levels of trauma and the effects of systemic racism. A systemic response can address that. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e38cxfKA #childwelfare #yatom #fostercare #helpchildren #Juneteenth

All children love to play and well-designed playgrounds are places where everyone can belong.🤾♂️ 👨👨👧👦 Many inclusive playgrounds were created because of the advocacy of families and we continue to speak up for more accessible and inclusive play spaces for our children. ACD heard from over 130 children and families of children with disability about the type of play they enjoy and what's important when it comes to inclusive playgrounds. Our report, titled Something For All, brings together these insights. We'd love you to share this with your school and local council to give them the information they need when planning playgrounds in our community. You can find the report on our website using the link below 👇 https://lnkd.in/dJNXxAFJ ✨We'd also like you to tell us in the comments below what's important to you when visiting a playground. ✨ #InclusivePlayground #AccessiblePlay #PlaygroundAdvocacy #CommunityPlay #InclusiveDesign #PlaygroundPlanning #FamilyAdvocacy #CommunityEngagement

Compelling read and an important step in supporting family unity and ensuring children live in safe, nurturing environments. Essential insights for all working with children and families. https://lnkd.in/exjTeiYd
'Keeping children safe, helping families thrive’ launched yesterday.. It outlines the government’s commitment to keeping families together and children safe. It also outlines a commitment to support children to live in family settings where children cannot remain at home, including through kinship or foster care, rather than residential care. Essential reading for DSLs and school leaders.
