The latest Quarterly Recruitment Outlook (QRO) report out this week from the British Chambers of Commerce has suggested that recruitment got tougher across all sectors in Q2, but especially within construction and engineering, with 82% of firms in the spaces reporting recruitment problems in Q2, up from 69% in Q1. This isn't a surprise, with the volume of projects across many sub-sectors in construction and engineering only likely to increase in H2 and 2025, further inflating the demand for the best talent in the sector. A South African engineering saga has been featured as far afield as the UK - as the BBC News reports: "the man who had been chief engineer at South Africa’s state-owned passenger rail company has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for faking his qualifications" - adding that "He was also at the forefront of a R600m deal to buy dozens of new trains from Spain, but they could not be used in South Africa as they were too high." Earning an annual salary of about R2.8m, Daniel Mthimkhulu's career has ended in shambles as the truth about his faked CV comes out. Record revenues again for Cirencester's Hercules 🪙🎉 Hercules Site Services PLC, the Cirencester-based labour supply company for the UK infrastructure and construction sectors, has reported record revenues again. Unaudited results for the six months ended 31 March reveal revenues up 32 per cent to £48.8 million. Gross profit increased by 21 per cent to £8.1 million. The company reported significant growth in all areas, combined with the first contribution from the white collar supplier to the construction industry, Future Build Recruitment Ltd, which Hercules acquired late last year, helped the company achieve another period of record growth.
