They are Recovering! In the first two months of working with his team they were able to recover over $5000. The owner was beyond surprised as he didn’t realize his staff was that under instructed. In our coaching meeting, the owner was ashamed of how he had let his business progress downward and how his clients have be misinformed and treated. He went on to say he had turned a blind eye to it as he had a feeling for what was going on but was embarrassed to admit he failed himself, his company, and his staff. There is no blaming and shaming here at FIX it CHANGE it. We acknowledge the issues, fix and change what we can and move forward. It is not about pointing the blame. This is a #SmallCharityWeek shout-out to the many small Citizens Advice charities providing vital support to our communities, and in particular, to my former colleagues at Oxfordshire South & Vale Citizens Advice a small charity making a massive difference. Many people don’t know that their local Citizens Advice is in fact an independent charity; I certainly didn’t before I joined them. Yet, Citizens Advice teams up and down the country are helping people to resolve their problems, some of a very complex nature, and often doing so on a shoe-string. At Oxfordshire South & Vale Citizens Advice the small staff team (all part-time) and around 130 volunteers help over 10,000 people a year! And they don’t just help with one-off problems. Volunteer advisers often support people over weeks or months to resolve complicated issues such as crushing debt and negative budgets, so that people don't have to choose between food or heating; or helping people to claim benefits to which they have been entitled for years but not been able to access because they find the system too tricky to navigate. All this is achieved on a tight budget and through the resourcefulness and sheer determination of staff and volunteers, who give several hours of their own time each week, so that everyone can receive the advice they need. Please support your local Citizens Advice by following their socials, telling people that they are a charity, becoming a volunteer, or donating if you can. The demand for advice has never been greater and your local Citizens Advice needs our support to ensure it can be there for everyone. Fundraisers who hope to grow professionally (and/or solicit and close larger gifts) can’t spend all of their networking time with other fundraisers. Wealth managers, attorneys, accountants, developers, private equity professionals, entrepreneurs. Ask them for a 20 minute phone call or offer to buy them coffee. Grow your network in THIS way. These are people whose perspectives on what’s happening in the world — and how they personally best receive information — can make you more relevant and interesting in conversations with prospects. Ask them what they think of topics you see in the news, and of what’s going on in their industry. What’s challenging for their business right now? It’s not more impressive that we are experts in fundraising than that we can talk to people about their business (and our business!) in solicitations.
