The Empathy Toolkit also includes a Belittling Agility Narrowing Device (BAND). In the workbook, students are told to wrap the device around the back of their hand, around their pinky finger and thumb. This will give their hand limited mobility, mimicking the effects of paralysis, joint issues or injury. They are then tasked with performing every-day tasks such as teeth-brushing, with the BAND in place. They then switch hands, do it again, and record their thoughts. We need some help to continue distributing the Empathy Toolkits. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to Lifetime of Impact, a project of San Francisco Public Health Foundation. https://lnkd.in/g5Cya2r6

The Empathy Toolkit workbook includes an exercise designed to offer a very small feeling of helplessness. During workshops, students do this while I tell a story, but at home they are instructed to do this: Raise your arm high into the air. Put it down when you feel uncomfortable. A helpless patient who relies on others to help them doesn't have that luxury. This time, put your arm up, but instead of YOU deciding when to put it down, the CLOCK will decide for you. Hold your arm up for: 1 minute 5 minutes 10 minutes 30 minutes When your arm stops aching, record your thoughts. We need some help to continue distributing the Empathy Toolkits. Media, traditional, or social, glamorises the wealthy...the bling, the excess, the social standing, the comparision game... you name it. When you find a philanthropic story of how money from the wealthy can genuinely be of service to others less well off well, it's heartwarming. The prestigious Johns Hopkins Medical School will now be completely free of charge for most students thanks to a $1 billion donation from Bloomberg philanthropies. This amazing donation will cover the tuition for students whose families earn less than $300,000 and was made to improve the declining US life expectancy and fill the crucial shortage of doctors and public health professionals. This is happening worldwide. The health industry as many commentators will state, is broken. Every country has a chronic shortage of doctors, medical specialists, nurses, health workers in general, it's an industry that is essential, yet we are starved for essential workers. I hope this generous donation to this essential profession is mimicked across the globe. To get The Espresso, ideas for thinkers, subscribe at https://shorturl.at/cfvL3.

At STAR Institute, we know sensory integration and processing affect all of us, every single day. A common misconception is that kids will simply “grow out of” sensory challenges—but the truth is that sensory processing differences often persist into adulthood, impacting work, relationships, and self-care. Early understanding and support are crucial to helping children and families thrive, but sensory health needs attention at every stage of life. At STAR, our work goes beyond therapy. We’re on a mission to dispel myths, raise awareness, and advocate for sensory health because it impacts everyone, especially those with sensory differences. Through sliding-scale services, educator and community leader training, and ongoing advocacy, we’re working to make sensory health accessible for all. This Colorado Gives Day, you can make a difference. Your donation supports our efforts to build a more inclusive, sensory-aware world. Together, we can create brighter futures for individuals and families navigating sensory processing challenges. Help us keep the momentum going! Schedule your donation today and join us in this important mission. https://lnkd.in/gr95t8m
