If you are a communications professional looking for a kick start to get back in work mode for the final stretch of the year, with some good company, good food and great music by night to balance things, then read on. In exactly three weeks time I look forward to hosting a unique event for communications industry professionals in my home town of Sligo. ConversationsFest24 is a salon conference event born out of the #DublinConversations, an initiative shaped by Andy Green FRSA and I over the past six years . Against the back drop of the elegant Yeats Society Building in Sligo town centre, and an eclectic mix of local venues that will be used for small sized break out sessions, this is an event for conversation with attendance capped at less than 50 including the organisers. We do have some expert contributions to get the discussion going but the outcome of the weekend will centre on the discussion between the peers attending. Emerging from those discussions we want to leave with a distinct, informed and well trashed out sense of - What the world now expects from communicators, - the skills and traits needed to meet those expectations - how to scale those skills in a team or organisation and - how to define and illustrate value for those skills in the understanding of the organisations that need to engage with communication. Why not join us. We already have attendees from Canada, the US, the UK and Germany as well as Ireland including both academics and practitioners. There will also be perspectives from some who've seen the work of communication evolve over five decades alongside some who are just starting out - the conversations will be epic There are a limited number of tickets, accessible on the link below. https://lnkd.in/eqsXnVnJ There is also a pre conference workshop on the Friday - Elevate your purpose and value in Communication and Public Relations https://lnkd.in/enmSGAQe

In our relentless digital pursuit, we are falling behind in etiquette, decorum, and appropriate professionalism. Political rhetoric and divisive comment sections - paired with a content onslaught including sports and pop culture fanatics - brings knee-jerk replies, retorts and attacks without critical thinking. Essentially, we are listening to respond instead of listening to understand. Perhaps the answer lies in family values or the way we're raised, but break-neck schedules and broken families with different rules in each home, have us ignoring kindness, respect and the way we present our brand in my opinion. If there's any good news to this, it's that young people who have been taught to use their social channels to broadcast a professional and talented brand while avoiding the troublesome content that follows kids around, are finding incredible opportunities in the roles, careers and pursuits they strive to attain. This is all part of my "Personal Branding and Online Presence" presentations around the province. Book now for Summer and Fall conferences. JoeWhitbread.com On stage. On air. Online.

Are you considering becoming a member of the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC)? Check out this message from President Leslie Gervasio about the exciting year we have ahead of us! It's a great organization and I can't recommend it enough. If you have questions, let me or our Membership Director Holly Hardin M.S., MEP know!! #NAGC #GovComms #Government #PIOLife
ICYMI: A Message From NAGC President Leslie Gervasio was included in last week's NAGC News Brief. Didn't get it in your inbox? Update your contact info with us here https://lnkd.in/eBrDwbkU and check out the message from Leslie below! We’re coming off the heels of a sold-out Communications School in New Orleans, and what an experience it was! Our 400 attendees enjoyed four amazing keynotes, 30 breakout sessions, and four advanced training workshops, and we were proud to honor 100 communication products during our Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Award ceremony! Thank you to our sponsors for helping us offer an enhanced #CommsSchool2024 experience! A special shout out to Education Director Michael Hughes, Competitions Director Andrea Iglar, and our Association management staff, MHQ, for a successful event! This Communications School had a special significance for me because I was sworn in as president of this Association. It is both humbling and rewarding to give back to our profession. I want to thank our immediate past president, Scott Thomsen, and our outgoing president, Tabitha Clark, APR, for leading this Association during challenging times and charting a road to long-term success. Thank you to the rest of the Board of Directors for your service to NAGC: Mick Bullock, Thomas Reeves, Rebekah Mena, Holly Hardin M.S., MEP, Michael Hughes, Andrea Iglar, Dena Potter, and Sherry Kuiper. So, where do we go from here? Looking ahead, we will unveil a new, interactive website that will offer an improved experience for our members. We’ll also expand our online member resource library with new resources for government communicators and grow our newly launched Mentorship and Ambassador Programs through our Volunteer Network. Best yet? I’m honored to welcome you to my home state of Pennsylvania, specifically the town where I grew up – Pittsburgh – for our annual Communications School. Although not planned around my election, hosting Comms School here is a special moment I get to share with you. In Pittsburgh, we bleed black and gold for our Steelers, eat Primanti’s sandwiches piled high with French fries and ‘slaw, enjoy a ride to the top of Mt. Washington on the Duquesne Incline, and sail down one of three rivers on the Gateway Clipper Fleet. I hope to see you at Communications School in Pittsburgh on May 20-22, 2025!

Just a friendly reminder that the deadline to submit the District Conference Interest Form is this Friday, August 2, at 2 p.m. ET. This is a fantastic opportunity for your PRSSA Chapter to explore the exciting possibility of hosting a District Conference. Why host a District Conference? Here are some incredible benefits: 🌟 Showcase your leadership and organizational skills. 🌟 Connect with fellow PRSSA members and industry professionals. 🌟 Gain invaluable experience in event planning and management. 🌟 Highlight your Chapter's accomplishments and innovations. 🌟 Attract new members and engage current ones. 🌟 Potential for financial profit if budgeting and sponsorship goals are met. By submitting the Interest Form, you're simply expressing your Chapter's interest and getting access to additional resources. It's a non-binding form that doesn't commit you to hosting but opens the door to further discussions and support.
