As a Cornellian who loves his Alma Mater, Lynah rink's current state is a tragedy. I actually wrote about this as a student. Lynah of today is quite unlike the Lynah many Alumni remember. Unfortunately, Cornell has systematically made Lynah unavailable to most students. Intramural hockey was axed in 2009 and never replaced. Public skating time is vanishingly scarce, and always held at times when students wouldn't be able to attend (mid-day weekdays). I don't remember any evening skates like the one mentioned in the article above; either it didn't happen when I was a student or it was advertised horribly. It's clear Cornell doesn't want students to use Lynah rink. Originally they promised to bring back intramural hockey, but it's been 15 years and I was told it's a "headache." Further, they don't even try to inform students about skating times. Lynah management has left the Lynah website defunct for years, (even after I called them out about it two years ago) forcing students to navigate to a sketchy Facebook page where skating times are posted erratically. It's a real shame, and I can't believe nothing has changed since I wrote about this in 2022. You'd think they'd fix the website at least. Check out my author profile if you're interested in more of the backstory. I wrote several articles about it, including the one below. https://lnkd.in/ghcUxVUT
No doubt, Lynah Rink is one of the most iconic barns in college hockey, but how much do you know about it? 🏒 🔴 ⚪ Read on and check out some interesting trivia about Big Red's home rink. Lynah Faithful, do you have a favorite memory from a Cornell hockey game? Let us know!
