Sovereign capability. Sovereign industry. Sovereign manufacturing. Sovereign space industry. Sovereign rights. Sovereign control.
We keep hearing these terms, but for Australia, the ‘sovereign’ aspect continues to have little meaning, especially when it comes to trade deals with the US, which really are all about the US, and not much (if anything) about us.
And alas, though completely not unsurprisingly, this has become apparent in the latest deal with the US over access to Australian space ports, with Australian company Gilmour Space making it very clear that we would get very little, if anything, out of the recently signed Technology Safeguards Agreement (TSA), thereby calling into question whether any projects with the US would be worthwhile.
So the TSA, which seemed to promise a lot, appears to be just more spin.
And as a longtime technology developer and sovereign industry capability supporter, that’s not just disappointing. It feels more like yet another disastrous letdown, even betrayal, by our own government.

1moI like “Sarco” because it’s the name of the city where I was born. I also have an interest in space, and it’s interesting that this combination is present in your company.🍻
