Enterprise Connect 2024, one of the most important contact center events of the year, finished up this week, and here is my takeaway. Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and senior technology experts specializing in call and contact center operations should be attending this event. Software companies, including NICE, RingCentral, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, Microsoft, Webex (Cisco), Five9, and Zoom, showcased their latest advancements in centralized communications solutions. A notable trend among these platforms is the integration of advanced AI functionalities and automated processes into their services, with Zoom promising not to charge extra for their AI inclusion. Client users seem eager for comprehensive integrated AI solutions instead of having to buy a collection of pricey individual solutions from different vendors. While each large tech company claims to be the best, in the end, it is the client user who will determine the truth. Aside from the razzmatazz of the keynote presentations, invaluable insights were often found in the user case study presentations. These sessions, though less frequented, provided attendees with an objective understanding of the challenges and solutions within the contact center domain. Noteworthy presentations I attended included: Hannover Re study (Automation before AI) by Doug Tubaugh & Irwin Lazar Medtronic study (Generative AI) by Michael Altieri Carnival Cruise Line study (Digital Communications) by Marcus Labra (Carnival) & Brian Heikes (Cisco) Marriott Vacations Worldwide study (Voice Assistant) by Joshua Schechter (Amelia) & Jason King Lippert study (Conversational AI) by Phillip Dougherty An insightful survey titled "Agent Assist and Virtual Assistants," presented by Robin Gareiss of Metrigy , which explored end-user experiences and future plans within contact centers for agent assist and VAs was excellent.
