The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, announced today, is a big step forward. But we must make sure it delivers for every household in the UK, as well as the economy and planet. Change is possible. This means boosting local renewable energy - schemes that are locally owned or run, and that create significant local benefits. And it's vital we lower demand by making millions of UK homes and other buildings warm and energy efficient. I welcome the government’s vision and leadership, particularly its commitment to "put local authorities and communities at the heart of restructuring our energy economy", and to grow the generation capacity of local and community energy projects by 8GW by 2030. How can the government meet this ambition? By fully delivering its Local Power Plan, one of five key priorities for GB Energy, alongside the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan. The Local Power Plan can help ensure no community is left behind by driving funding, training and outreach focused in deprived areas. Due regard must also be given to community and shared ownership projects in the energy connections reform process. Repowering our energy systems with a clean, local, homegrown approach won't only lower emissions - it will create jobs, tackle fuel poverty, and deliver many more benefits across society. #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction

🌟 A Bold Step Toward Clean Power in the UK! 🌟 We’re excited to see the release of the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan: A New Era of Clean Electricity today. This comprehensive strategy represents a significant leap forward in the UK’s transition to a cleaner, greener energy future. Key highlights include: ⚡ Reforming Planning Processes – Accelerating the timelines for critical clean energy infrastructure. ⚡ Scaling Renewable Generation – Meeting growing demand through innovative clean energy solutions. ⚡ Investing in Storage & Flexibility – Advancing long-duration storage and flexible systems to ensure energy reliability. ⚡ Boosting UK Supply Chains – Unlocking £40 billion annually in clean power investment over the next six years. While these goals are ambitious, they are within reach, but access to finance will be crucial for innovators to bring these plans to life. The UK’s clean power ambitions depend on enabling the innovators and entrepreneurs who are developing breakthrough technologies and systems. Without the right financial support, we risk delaying the transformation needed to meet the 2030 targets. This includes facilitating easier access to venture capital, supporting first-of-a-kind projects, and overcoming funding gaps that many early-stage innovators face. This is not just about a new energy system—it’s about creating new opportunities for economic growth, job creation, and environmental benefits. Industry, government, and finance must work together to ensure innovators can secure the resources they need to scale quickly and effectively. The transition to clean power is urgent. With the right investment in innovation and infrastructure, the UK has the potential to lead globally in renewable energy solutions. But we must also address the barriers to finance to ensure this vision becomes a reality. 🌿 #CleanEnergy #Innovation #Investment #NetZero #CleanPower2030 #Cleantech #FinanceForInnovation https://lnkd.in/e8fPRHSe

As we close out the year, the Overton window on UK policy has undeniably shifted. The release of the Clean Power Action Plan is a striking example of this shift, revealing both the scale of the challenge ahead and the opportunity it represents. The plan rightly emphasizes the need for £40 billion in investment to meet deployment targets, yet it also highlights a crucial gap: how do we ensure that the private and public sectors share risk in a way that drives forward these investments? The answer isn't simple, but the stakes are high. Investors need clarity and confidence to mobilize capital at the scale required, but without addressing this risk-sharing dilemma, we risk stalling the very transition we aim to accelerate. In 2025, our focus must be on creating a financial framework that both attracts investment and mitigates the uncertainty that holds it back, leading to speedier deployment for clean power projects.
