We had to deal with the most ill designed bathroom layout whose décor was stuck in 1975. This was originally meant to be 2 bed sharing flat for Supported Living, but the provider who originally wanted the block decided to change the offer and terms 4 times and we just didn't have faith it would work out long term. Property Development Project - Thatch Cottage - Extension In order to preserve the Grade II listed cottage, the extension was independently built from the house. In order to give the area as much natural light as possible we used as much glass as we could. The flat roof featured a sky light and the openings were created by putting in aluminium bifold doors, and fixed windowpane from floor to ceiling. The extension increased the ground floor space by 50%. When people talk about old buildings/houses they normally think about Victorian or maybe Georgian the mass produced housing of its time. More often when I'm talking about true sustainability I'm think of buildings like this. Occupied, reused, remodelled and still going! Is this the oldest house in England? Saltford Manor House in Somerset is a Norman house dating from around 1150. In 2003, it won a ‘Country Life’ contest to find the ‘oldest continuously inhabited house in Britain’. In the medieval period, the Earls of Gloucester owned the land on which the manor was built, but it’s most likely that a tenant constructed the building. Major remodelling occurred in the 15th century when a large chimney stack was inserted, and the ground floor was modified to form further high-status rooms.
