A lesson in differentiation: It’s not what it is, but what it means. In crowded categories many early-stage founders are caught in the tyranny of differentiation–trying to create competitive advantage and separate their business/brand from the slush pile by offering more product attributes, functions, features, variations, and selling at lower price. Essentially competing for what has already been created rather than create new value. Competitive advantage is based in an “idea of value” people love, can’t live without, and can’t get from anyone else. A tallboy can of water is just a can of water. That’s all it will forever be. But to some people it’s much more. Some people have attached a greater personal meaning to a common can of water. People will always place more value on whatever holds personal meaning to them. Sometimes it can be the most mundane and common thing that redefines an entire category and turns into a billion-dollar business. This was definitely a roller coaster ride with lots of ups and downs. Some of the down moments left me feeling devastated and lost, while other moments sent me to the moon with excitement. Such is the life of an entrepreneur:) In my latest YouTube video I share this personal story about pitching my product to this big company, including both the emotions I felt and the results I achieved. Of course, this is just my story, but there are many lessons you can apply from it even though your own story will always be unique.

"Where did you learn all this?" The question caught me off guard. We were deep in conversation about scaling strategies when Amaan from storkcares.com stopped me mid-sentence. For the past hour, we'd been dissecting everything from market positioning to product development frameworks. What started as a casual review of his MVP had evolved into a comprehensive growth strategy session. His question made me reflect. The truth? My insights haven't come from books or courses.
