🚨 The holiday season is here! 🚨  Or as some might call it: crunch time, deal-closer season, strategic planning mode, or mad dash to the finish line. Everyone wants to meet before the vacation mindset kicks in, only to hear, “𝘓𝘦𝘵’𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳!” 😅  On top of that, your personal to-do list is exploding:   🎄 Put up the tree   🎁 Decide if you’re even doing gifts (and what to get your partner if you are)   📬 Send holiday cards (if you managed to order them!)   🛒 Build an Amazon wish list for the kids so Grandma doesn’t go rogue  It’s A LOT. And it’s easy to get swept up, adding more and more until you’re drowning in busy. But let me remind you: 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲.   We treat being “busy but good busy” like a badge of honor in hustle culture. Let’s not. Being busy often means letting others manage your most precious resource—your time.  Here’s my challenge for you: 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗢 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.   Yes, it’s awkward. Yes, it’s hard. But it creates space for what truly matters.  For me, saying no has meant stepping back from boards, nighttime events, and commitments that no longer align. I’ve realized it’s OK to let go of things that don’t fit right now. It lets me be fully present for my wife and kids, and the things that really light me up.  Take a page from Derek Sivers: If it’s not a “Hell Yeah,” it’s a no.  - Invited to a party? Did you say “Hell Yeah?”   - Asked to speak at a conference? Was it a “Hell Yeah?”   - Family dinner for the holidays? Yep, ask yourself the same.  If it’s not a “Hell Yeah,” give yourself permission to reclaim your time. 🎄 The Year So Far 🎄 With just a few weeks left until the Christmas break, I've started to reflect on what a year it's been. 🌟 First decision: I’m extending my holiday break! This year, I'll be taking time off from 16th Dec to 6th Jan. 🗓️ Why? This year has been a rollercoaster 🎢 of highs and lows—more so than I anticipated. Generating new work has been a real challenge, with the economy 🏦 and politics 🗳️ playing their part. Some Observations: 1. Getting in front of decision-makers has never been easy, and this year felt tougher than ever. 🏢 2. Decisions are taking longer ⏳—if they’re being made at all. 3. It’s not just me! Many of my connections across various sectors have shared the same struggles. 🤝 My Holiday Plans: 1. 🌟 Time to Reflect I’ll be using this break to analyse what worked and what didn’t in 2024. (Okay, not totally a break... but I find it easier to strategize with a clear mind. 🧠) 2. 📚 Catching Up on Reading Finally tackling my book backlog while spinning some vinyl. Simple, but effective! ✨ Overusing (if that’s possible) my calendar – Between meetings, and holiday plans, color coordination saves me from chaos. Work tasks are blue, personal events are green, and family obligations? Bright red—because, well, you know. ✨ Micro-goals for the win – Whether it’s breaking a big project into small tasks or tackling holiday prep one step at a time, focusing on small wins keeps me moving forward without feeling overwhelmed. This season, I’m leaning into organization, but also giving myself grace to not have it all perfectly together. What about you? The holidays are coming, and let's be honest - we all want that magical two-week break where our business runs perfectly in the background while we sip hot chocolate by the fire. This is my 5th year of navigating being an entrepreneur during the holidays; here's what I've learned about taking real time off: First, let go of the little voice in your head telling you to "get ahead" during your break. We've all told ourselves we'll batch three months of content or completely revamp our systems during those two weeks... Trust me, future you will be much happier actually resting. The real secret? Be realistic about your holiday plans: → Decide NOW if you're working or not - no half-commitments → If you are working, pick ONE high-impact project (not twenty small tasks) → Communicate clear expectations to clients weeks in advance → Set up simple systems to handle the basics while you're away Here's my personal approach this year: I'm taking a complete break from client work, scheduling my content in advance, and leaving my "transform my entire business" planning for January. Anyone following along might have noticed a theme with my posts just lately, which is that I keep talking about holidays! I recently booked one, and it’s given me so many ideas that I want to share. And this one is about decisions. Going on holiday involves lots of decisions. When to go, where to go, who to go with, what kind of place to go to, whether to actually go at all! And what I noticed thinking about the decisions I made for this holiday, is that the things that came up and got in the way of me just deciding, are the same things that always come up. For me it’s whether I’ve got the time, and what people will think. My brain was concerned about taking time out of my business, the time it would take to plan and prepare for the trip, do the packing, and all the laundry when we got back, and also about whether other people would approve of the kind of holiday we went on. And these are the same things my brain gets concerned about when I’m deciding about pretty much anything, which is so useful to notice – because it means I can be on to my brain and get round it! I know that whenever I go to make a decision, my brain is going to start worrying about time and other people’s thoughts. And when that happens, I can notice it, and decide to ignore it.
