In this week's episode of The High Performance LIFE, I'm joined by Aaron Shawn Harper, a man who has turned overcoming adversity into an art form. Shawn’s journey from being voted “most likely to fail” and graduating with a 1.62 GPA to playing in the NFL and running a thriving multi-million-dollar business is nothing short of inspiring. Known as "The Winologist," Shawn has made it his mission to teach others how to transform obstacles into opportunities and shift their mindset from simply seeking success to striving for wins. In this powerful conversation, Shawn shares how faith, perspective, and discipline have been the cornerstones of his achievements. From his time as an NFL offensive lineman for teams like the LA Rams and the Indianapolis Colts to his transition into a motivational speaker and author of The Winning Edge, Shawn has consistently applied the lessons of teamwork, grit, and mentorship to help others thrive. This episode will cover the following topics: • Vulnerabilities of high achievers • Faith as a lifelong guidepost • Discipline, the backbone of strong leaders • Lifestyle philosophy: Acknowledge, Accept, Action • Teamwork is essential for success Click the link below to listen to the full episode! Thank you for having me on the 100th episode of #TheSafetyGuru. @EricMichrowski talked about why it isn't wise to "set and forget" your processes for safety. Leaders need to think about how they make decisions, not just the content of the decisions, use emotion as clues, and build organizational habits that make safety part of the DNA of the company. I especially loved our conversation about airplane safety - listen to hear what Eric has to say. Propulo Consulting #Decisions #TheDecisionDoctor

💀 Death by a Thousand Cuts – Why Leaders Need to Do Better It’s “death by a thousand cuts,” as Brad Cooper described on the latest episode of Triumph Beyond Trauma. These small, relentless criticisms slowly erode resilience, making it harder for even the toughest among us to keep going. When leaders focus on nitpicking instead of support, they miss the bigger picture—the wellbeing of their people. 💡 True leadership isn’t about catching every mistake or enforcing every rule to the letter. It’s about showing genuine care, empathy, and support, so your team feels seen, heard, and valued. When people know you’ve got their back, they’ll always do their best work. Brad Cooper explains how leadership obsessed with ticking boxes instead of truly caring for their people can cause real harm. If you want your team to thrive, you have to show up for them—really see them. It’s not about enforcing minor rules. It’s about being a leader who values people over protocols. If this resonates with you, I highly recommend giving Brad’s episode a listen. 🎙️ https://lnkd.in/gbCH4kKB 🎧 #Leadership #FirstResponderWellbeing #MentalHealthMatters #TeamSupport #ResilientLeadership #TriumphBeyondTrauma

Many leaders struggle with giving freedom for their employees to do their best work, because they forget to provide some structure for them to work in. In today's episode, Alex Dorr and Cy Wakeman talk about leader's role in finding the balance between structure and play. In the conversation, they go into a key Reality-Based Leadership focus that all leaders need to have, is setting your nonnegotiable as a leader to then get people to buy into those. From there, people are allowed to bring their best self play in the workplace so to speak and create magic. They also cover why it's so important to focus on this balance because too much structure and people believe we're over proceduralized. And they feel like they can't do any work and too much play, then it's really a free-for-all and innovation can't happen. So the magic comes from just enough structure and then people are allowed to innovate and collaborate knowing they have the same basics. So this is a really, really important episode to setting the groundwork for good leadership. Alex and Cy can't wait to hear your thoughts. It’s always a pleasure to be on The Working Life with Caroline Dowd-Higgins! Our first conversation was shortly after my book "Getting Along" came out, and what a treat it was to be invited back this past spring to dissect the anti-leadership lessons from the TV series Succession. 🎬 If you’ve watched the Roy family’s dysfunctional power struggles and toxic leadership tactics, you know how absurdly real it can feel. But beyond the drama, there are some surprisingly valuable takeaways for leaders—it’s a masterclass in how *not* to run a company. Caroline and I break down the cringeworthy moments that show why trust, healthy communication, and effective succession planning are essential in the real world. If you’re a fan of the show, you won’t want to miss this episode! 🎙️Listen on your favorite platform—links in the comments. What were your favorite anti-leadership moments on Succession? #CorporateCulture #ExecutiveLeadership #TrustInTheWorkplace #TeamDevelopment #BusinessStrategy #CareerGrowth Image alt-text: Caroline Dowd-Higgins smiling with her hands on her hips.
