I’m excited to hear from some incredible leaders in the ethics & AI space at the upcoming Nexus Informatics conference! I’ll be on the career panel, and I can’t wait to be the least interesting person in the lineup! 🙌🏻 🗒️ And now, a second post below the fold for the ai nerds: I want to take a moment to talk about the OpenAI powered development my team has been doing… but I’m hesitant to say much. It’s so trendy, many agency owners are trying to selfishly and irresponsibly capitalize on this. ⛈️ Here’s how to tell that a developer or agency owner is about to take you for a ride: They offer to build you “ai” tools or app features that could be done by a spreadsheet, simple algorithm, or existing tool. 👎 Responsible teams will talk you out of bad development requests. 🌈 Too many startup founders think they need “ai” but don’t actually understand it. With circumspection I’ve decided to take on select new projects with global or national leaders working across the intersections of ethics and technology. Hopefully I’ll be able to share more soon about some exciting new developments happening with Adva Digital Solutions at this intersection. 🏁 In the meantime, I’ll just say: If you have a humanitarian project that may need ai, feel free to DM me so I can try to talk you out of it. 🚫🤖💸 Seriously. Btw - if you weren’t aware, The Center for Practical Bioethics has a working board called the Ethical AI Initiative, and this national group is based right here in KC! (full disclosure: I’m currently honored to be on their board) This consulting group is available to audit ai systems and provide consulting services to startups and enterprise players. If you’re investing in ai, you have a duty to invest in the safety and auditing ability of this system. We’re all building the plane as it’s flying, but some of us have the privilege of influencing navigation.
