This has been a big year for SAGE and our people with too many exciting updates to mention in one caption. A few of the most noteworthy headlines: We hosted a site visit for our 50 impact investors, 30 federal agency representatives, and more key stakeholders. We’ve hit major milestones in our Anpetu Wi Wind Farm, we won a grant from the Department of Energy and installed 5 met mast towers to date. We launched a new project, the Business Service Center to consolidate key services and a coffee shop into a single hub. We attended and spoke at 13 events and hosted more, including the Standing Rock Community Art show. #SAGE #SAGEInitiatives #SAGECommunity #SAGEValues #StandingRock #WorkforceDevelopment #SkillBuilding #RenewableEnergy #YearInReview #EnvironmentalStewardship #SustainableFuture #CleanEnergy #EconomicGrowth #JobCreation #CommunityInvolvement #SolarPower #EnergyIndependence #CommunitySolar #EnergySovereignty #TribalSovereignty #SuccessStories

The H&S Insights team recently dove into 𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑛: 𝑁𝑒𝑤 𝐸𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑒𝑠 here at HQ (with the kids joining in!). As an #EnergyPolicy professional, I was impressed by how well this new version of the classic board game by CATAN Studio mirrors real-world energy challenges, including: 🌱 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐥 𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬: Like in the game, we constantly weigh short-term gains against the long-term benefits of renewable energy. 🌎 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭: The game shows how local energy choices impact the overall carbon footprint, leading to global environmental consequences that are mitigated through collective action. 🏆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Being a clean energy leader and transitioning away from fossil fuels sooner, in the game and in reality, creates long-term competitive advantages. 𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑛: 𝑁𝑒𝑤 𝐸𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑖𝑒𝑠 is a great reminder that clean energy isn't a one-size-fits-all solution—it's about strategic trade-offs that impact the world we all share. I encourage my fellow #EnergyPolicy enthusiasts to check out the game and use it as an engagement tool with coworkers and kids alike! 😃

NACD Northern California enjoyed another special evening of rich discussion at our private dinner on the topic of "Empowering Energy Transition from the Board Perspective." Key discussion points included: ✅ Disclosure—Be fully informed when disclosing energy-transition goals and progress toward those goals. Recognize tensions between the aspirational and the achievable, ask questions and evaluate assumptions, and use supporting data to reach conclusions. ✅ Oversight and Strategy—Assess both risks and opportunities in setting decarbonization strategy, including competitive and reputational risks, impacts on stakeholders, opportunities presented by innovative technologies, and stranded assets. Be mindful of shifts in energy that will arise during the transition, including the significant expected growth of power demand in the US over the next five years and its impact on decarbonization strategies. ✅ Sustainable Sustainability Efforts—Develop a clear long-term strategy for energy transition that aligns with the company's overall business objectives and sustainability goals. Profitability and sustainability cannot become competing priorities. ✅ Measuring and Reporting—Have management establish metrics and key performance indicators to track progress toward energy-transition goals. Prepare for reporting requirements on sustainability performance to investors, regulators, and potentially other stakeholders. Evaluate the risks and rewards around reporting when not required, at least until the treatment of reported information and litigation risks are clearer. ✅ Financial Implication—Evaluate the financial implications of energy transition, including the costs of transitioning to and benefits of renewable energy sources, potential cost savings from energy efficiency measures, and opportunities presented by sustainable practices. ✅ Government Subsidies—Current government subsidies incentivize energy transition. If the subsidies go away, the cost of continuing to pursue energy-transition goals and strategies may increase substantially. Boards should understand the resulting potential fiscal impact. A special thank you to our wonderful hosts from Baker Botts, Jason Bennett, Samantha Crispin, Jonathan Gordon, and Catherine Zinn for generously hosting this dinner, guiding the conversation, and bringing us all together. #NACD #energytransition #sustainability

The EECA primarily targets large industries and buildings; however, it is equally important to educate the younger generation about the value of energy efficiency. This year marks the eleventh anniversary of the Energy Efficiency Challenge, an initiative proudly promoted by the Energy Commission. What makes this year particularly special is the involvement of Ir. Ts. Muhammad Faisal Yusoff’s daughter, who has been invited to play a key role in raising awareness about the EECA among young people. Her poem beautifully encapsulates the essence of the EECA, presenting its purpose and significance in an engaging and accessible manner. Poem by Syafiqah Hazmi, Assistant Director, Energy Efficiency Development Unit, Department of Energy Efficiency and Conservation, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission).
