A couple of water abstraction boreholes and a fault crossing the site on the survey's 1:10,000 map tells us that there is sufficient uncertainty in the subsurface that we should consider a geophysical site investigation. Relatively cheap geophysics can help to avoid relatively expensive drilling mistakes. Problem is that recent experiences with several techniques tells us that "noise" and "interference" from city infrastructure can limit quality data, so we're looking for techniques that don't suffer from that problem. We have one technique in mind already, but given the relatively novelty of this project, it would be good to access others. The city is in the UK and we need to find a readily available tool that can be deployed quickly over the summer. An insightful animation showcasing the power of seismic inversion for accurately imaging subsurface geological features. Utilizing simultaneous pre-stack inversion, I've animated a comparison between a seismic line passing through multiple wells and its corresponding impedance inversion results. On this arbitrary line, we can observe areas of low acoustic impedance formations represented by warm colors and high acoustic impedance formations depicted by cool colors. This distinction shows the geological heterogeneity along the line, providing valuable insights into subsurface lithology variations. seismic inversion provides a transformative perspective by converting seismic data into acoustic impedance values, enabling a more direct interpretation of subsurface lithology variations. It enhances our ability to distinguish subtle geological features, such as stratigraphic changes and fluid boundaries, which are critical for reservoir characterization and hydrocarbon exploration. #seismic #geophysics #reservoir #oil #inversion #litjology #geology #geoscience #fluid #subsurface

The Seismic Residual Attribute allows to complement and optimize seismic interpretation. September 2024. New example, number 14.   I want to share with you a new brief presentation about the Seismic Residual Attribute (or SeisRA).   SeisRA calculated for a migrated stack generates a new image in which an important improvement on the seismic representation of the structural and the stratigraphic features is achieved. SeisRA also optimizes the vertical resolution and the signal-to-noise ratio; highlights the anomalies and doesn’t generate artifacts. Therefore, SeisRA allows to optimize the seismic interpretation.   In the attached new example, SeisRA was calculated poststack for a window of an offshore time-migrated 2D seismic line. This line is located near the coast of the United States of America. Geophysics for Geologic H2 Exploration Series: No.7 (by Yaoguo Li and Mengli Zhang ) Lithology identification, also called geology differentiation, is a multiphysics method that can image the source-rock interior or de-risk drilling for reservoirs in geologic H2 exploration. The method uses distinctive physical property ranges to identify lithologies from the inversion of two or more geophysical data sets. Geophysics for Geologic H2 Exploration Series: No.3 (by Yaoguo Li and Mengli Zhang) We illustrate the use of gravity geophysics in imaging the depths to the basement rocks. Source rocks are often present in the basement below sedimentary basins, such as the case in eastern Kansas, US. Therefore, mapping the basement structure is a key aspect for H2 exploration. Gravity and magnetic data provide an effective and cost-efficient means to accomplish this goal on large scales. In this example from Brazil, we present a case of gravity data improving upon seismicly derived basement relief through a cooperative 3D gravity inversion. The Radiometric geophysical method has many applications .It is used primarily as a geological mapping tool. Changes in lithology, or soil type, are often accompanied by changes in the concentrations of the radioelements. The method is capable of directly detecting mineral deposits. Potassium alteration, which is often associated with hydrothermal ore deposits, can be detected using the gamma-ray spectrometric method.
