I’m thrilled to share a bit about my professional journey and the incredible experiences I've had at KPMG over the past 10 months. One of the most significant projects I worked on involved optimizing a client's supply chain. When the client initially approached us with this challenge, I embraced the opportunity with a confident attitude, despite having no prior experience in supply chain optimization. Here are some key learnings from this journey: Embrace Challenges with Confidence: When tasked with supply chain optimization, I dove into extensive research to understand our current processes and benchmarked them against competitors. This initial step was crucial in identifying where improvements were needed. Focus on Problem-Based Solutions: I conducted a root cause analysis (RCA) across all involved processes—manufacturing, logistics, inventory management, and more. By pinpointing areas where we were losing money, I could devise solutions that addressed the problems holistically, rather than focusing on individual verticals. Implementing Comprehensive Strategies: Starting with manufacturing, I identified inefficiencies and implemented automation to increase efficiency and reduce waste. For logistics, we optimized the network using Optilogic, which took 2-3 months to implement but resulted in a streamlined logistics plan. We also explored direct delivery options and conducted a greenfield analysis to determine optimal warehouse locations, ultimately reducing freight costs. The final step was providing a detailed plan for setting up a new manufacturing unit, highlighting potential savings and efficiency gains. This project was a transformative experience, teaching me the importance of thorough research, problem-solving, and strategic implementation. It also reinforced my passion for tackling complex challenges and delivering impactful solutions. I'm excited to connect with fellow professionals and exchange insights on supply chain optimization and strategic consulting.

Have you noticed the growing focus on Procurement Excellence initiatives recently? I've really noticed that there is more talk and hiring going on around roles that focus on the intersection of people, processes and technology. However, there is still a lack of understanding of where this will lead us in the evolution of the #procurement skill set. I've had some very interesting conversations with respected professionals from across the #digitalprocurement ecosystem on this subject recently, some of which are reflected in my observations in this video (see the link in the comments below). If you would like to contribute to or discuss my research on this subject please get in touch directly. Edbury Daley #procurementexcellence #procurementtech #proctech #cpo #procurementleaders
