It’s surprising that toilet training is still an issue when it’s cheaper not to rely on nappies. It does make you wonder if some parents just can’t be bothered to put in the effort. Teachers already have so much on their plate—why should they have to handle something that should be managed at home? 👉That said, it’s important to strike a balance between understanding the challenges families face and ensuring children are ready for school life, both socially and developmentally. Part of the education fund was allocated to constructing additional school buildings due to insufficient financial support from the government. Previously, children had to study outdoors, either under trees or in open spaces, because there weren't enough classrooms. To date, four new school buildings have been completed. However, many existing structures are outdated and need to be replaced. Story Flourish is a new charity. Our aim is to drive a change in educational policy to make gardens part of school life and integrate outdoor learning into the curriculum. Children’s depression, anxiety and ADHD is on the rise and one of the reasons is our disconnect with nature. Increasingly, our children struggle with the basics - self-regulation, resilience, concentration, using initiative. Flourish create gardens where children can reconnect with nature and improve their mental health, educational achievements, and their employment opportunities in the future. Over the last six years, we have involved children in hands-on gardening. The results have been moving and astounding. Children are more engaged, want to learn and are happier. Now we are ready to test a school-wide approach and track the results so that we can make the case for wider roll-out. We believe Flourish can provide governments across the UK with the mechanism needed to establish the natural world in education policy, as called for in the Dasgupta review.* We're fundraising to get the first Flourish garden installed, and need your help to make it happen. Flourish gardens are uncompromisingly high in quality and beauty. Our beautiful outdoor spaces inspire children to play, imagine, explore, stay curious and wonder. This improves their physical and mental health and gets them ready to learn. We're ready to get gardens into schools, to integrate horticulture throughout the curriculum, and produce the evidence needed to take this to governments across the UK. We've already raised £70,000 to kick-start the project and do all the project development. We now need £155,000 to install our first garden, design the teaching method, collect the data needed to measure impact, and design and plan for the second garden. We know this approach works. The WardBoy Project works to help today’s youth with the resources they need to succeed in life personally and professionally. WBP strives to help 100,000 students, ages 8 through 18, prepare for success academically, athletically, and socially by providing educational tools, life skills, and mentorship over the next 5 years, so they can develop the discipline and balance needed to tackle any challenges they may face. We do this by activating 10 WardBoy Project Mentoring Programs by collaborating with local schools and community-based organizations, hosting 20 Ward Boy Camps, and 5 educational symposiums within 5 years to impact an additional 50,000 people looking for the inspiration needed to succeed in life. Education is the key!

Safe routes to School programme needs to be fully funded to allow works to be carried out. The Safe Routes to School Scheme is moving too slowly with only 12 schools across County Galway out of 65 registered for the scheme have to date been sanctioned for funding. Even more worrying is the fact that not one school in the Tuam Municipal District has been funded. The Safe Routes to School Scheme is administered by An Taisce and funded through the Active Travel fund. “I believe that the fund should be administrated by the Local Authorities who have the expert knowledge and experience in road safety. Key locations such as Corrandrum National School, Castlehackett National School, Milltown National School, Sylane National School, Belmont National School, Ballinlass National School, Clydagh National School, Crumlin National School, Kilcoona National School are all areas requiring safety works to make the schools safer in terms of accessibility but none of which has received any fund despite being registered. I support Galway County Councils request to have at least 4 of the above schools included in the round of schools to be funded. We cannot pretend that there is a scheme in place if schools are being excluded for no apparent reason”. https://lnkd.in/ed3dP77U

Education Matters: Waterfront Rotary Empowers Learners with Stationery Drive The Waterfront Rotary is proud to support vulnerable learners by providing essential stationery packs to two key institutions: Siyakhanyisa Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) in Langa and the Cape Town Multi-Service Centre (CTMS) in Salt River. This initiative aligns with Rotary International’s commitment to Basic Education and Literacy, reinforcing the Club’s dedication to fostering educational equity. Siyakhanyisa ECD nurtures young minds in their formative years, while CTMS offers stability and academic support to boys aged 7–16 who have faced challenges such as abuse and neglect. Both institutions serve communities where access to basic educational supplies is limited, creating obstacles to learning and self-confidence. The Waterfront Rotary has approved the funds for 51 stationery packs for learners across Grade R, primary, and high school levels. These packs will provide the tools needed for academic success and demonstrate Rotary’s continued commitment to community development.
