One of the interesting things that came from going into Prisons and speaking with people we were making this for, was learning about their needs, goals and challenges. We can all have good intentions to help, but when we co-create a solution with those living the issues, we get insight. Most people are given hoops to jump through and processes to abide to. Curfews to meet and appointments to be kept. It’s a bit of a tight rope act where you can’t put a foot wrong and if you fall you get to go back to losing your freedom. We thought we were ready to launch Mate — until last Thursday. We went to the App Growth Summit® in Barcelona, and it was full of game-changing insights. 🔥 I’m usually not a huge fan of summits—too much noise, not enough value. But this time was different. The event gave us real takeaways on acquisition, retention, feature testing, product strategy, monetization, and more. The mobile app space is evolving fast, and hearing from so many experienced speakers helped us refine our vision and strategy just in time for launch. Great organization, great speakers, and some amazing people on the networking side too. One big takeaway for me: the dating app market is completely saturated, yet there’s still no solution that truly focuses on friendships—even though the need is massive. Not for long, though… we’re launching soon. 🚀 Special thanks to Felipe Mata for his valuable insights on app monetization and to Gerard Montagut for pushing us to ask the right questions and challenge our product.
