Christmas Markets by rail. Special £2 rail fares offered by Northern. Northern have worked with tourism bosses in #Harrogate and #Skipton to create a £2 rail fare [like the £2 bus fare] for those visiting the Christmas markets. #Barnsley has a Christmas Market at the Glassworks but I am not hearing that there will be a similar promotion. Northern was targeting less crowded markets in towns for the promotion and so perhaps there is still time for officers at Travel South Yorkshire, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority or Barnsley Council to do a deal, as Barnsley's rail station is really close to the #Glassworks. The Fiji Police Force must reconsider its priorities during this festive season. Recent reports by citizens of police disproportionately targeting sports car owners and car enthusiasts raise serious concerns about fairness and resource allocation. While road safety is of paramount importance, data consistently shows that the majority of road accidents involve buses, trucks, and other vehicles—not sports cars. Car enthusiasts are a passionate community who deserve the same freedom as anyone else to lawfully responsibly enjoy their interests, especially during the holiday season. Targeting them unfairly not only undermines public trust in law enforcement but also diverts attention from addressing the real causes of road accidents. We call on the police to focus on genuine road safety threats, such as reckless heavy vehicle drivers, instead of wasting resources targeting a group that is largely law-abiding. It is holiday season—a time for joy and celebration. Let us not dampen the spirits of our citizens by policing fun and passion unnecessarily. The police force must do its job better and ensure a balanced, evidence-based approach to road safety enforcement that respects the rights of all Fijians.

I am taking part in the Urban Living Festival next week, it should be a great event Piers and his team at International Hospitality Media always put on a great event. It will be interesting to see if there are any ideas offered up to address the affordable housing crisis in the UK. A recent Crisis report gave the following depressing stats, 'Meanwhile, the UK Government has published data revealing that the number of households trapped in temporary accommodation in England has reached a new record high. 112,660 households were living in temporary accommodation such as nightly paid B&Bs between October and December 2023 - an increase of 12% on the same period last year, and an increase of 98% on 2013. This includes over 145,800 children.' 145,800 kids in poorly suited accommodation seems like a lot to me. And the cost of the temporary accommodation hit £1.7bn last year. I'd like to think there are better ways of using that money and creating a more permanent and more humane solution. This is the sort of 'Urban Living' that needs to be changed and I think there are enough clever people going along next Thursday to come up with some suggestions. https://lnkd.in/e9axNmWp
