The project, Simulator-Informed Neural Networks (𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐬.𝐜𝐨𝐦), explores how to leverage the speed and flexibility of machine-learning representations of physics-based models. I am interested in extending the utility of simulation models by modernizing essential methods and algorithms. 𝐍𝐨 𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐘𝐏𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝. I am at the end of the first draft of district guidance for ethical and responsible use of AI for our teachers and administrators--focused on professional use of Gen AI for educators. Can't wait to get into the feedback and collab phase with my colleagues. I have done a LOT of reading and research for this. TeachAI.org has been invaluable. However, I do notice everywhere that I did the reading and the research it's jumping RIGHT into student usage, usage with kids. I feel like we need to give the professionals some dedicated focus and learning time first, to get some idea of best practices as adult learners. Maybe it's because I work in a PK-6th district that I feel like we can focus on the adults first on this. But when we do that, ask teachers to jump right in with students, we are asking teachers to become literate while simultaneously helping students to become not only literate, but ethical, critical, and responsible users. But have we made sure the adults are ready and equipped to be ethical, critical, and responsible users? I feel like we are letting the urgency of NEW/NOW (and I agree it is urgeny) get ahead of what we know are good implementation practices. Am I the lone nut here? What am I missing?

It would be great to have a focus on responsible AI in medicine from a sustainability perspective - seeing the news about the enormous electricity and water demands of training and deploying LLMs asks us to explore how do we make sure we are right sizing tools for clinical needs not only from a clinical quality perspective but also the environmental footprint of health AI.

Deep learning is great at sensing heart rate from smartwatch signals. But, deep learning with integrated prior knowledge is even better. With KID-PPG, we have identified key insights into heart rate sensing and have designed mechanisms to integrate them into our deep learning model.
