The last of the Baby Boomers is about to retire, and the average balance in their retirement accounts is $275,000. Do you know what that means? For most people, it means that they’ll run out of money by the time they’re 78, and that’s only if they can live on $54,000 a year, which is the average US annual cost of living in retirement. Can you live off $54,000 a year? There aren’t enough Walmarts to support 68 trillion retirees. Let me show you how you can boost your retirement savings. What’s the Rush to Retire Early? Everyone’s buzzing about early retirement these days, especially the so-called “Finfluencers.” Sure, the idea of lounging on a beach before 40 sounds fantastic, but are we actually chasing freedom here, or just an escape plan from life’s daily snooze fest? A job that’s as thrilling as watching grass grow isn’t exactly a reason to hit the eject button. Let’s be real - work doesn’t have to be a soul-sucking endeavour. Done right, it can even mean personal growth, friendships, and some half-decent coffee. Instead of racing to retirement, maybe we should slow down and ask a few questions, like: 1) Do I actually like my career, or am I just in it for the thrill of hitting snooze every morning? 2) What on earth would still get me out of bed at 55? Because I’m not ready to trade my grind for bingo and shuffleboard. 3) How do I define “success” in a way that isn’t just my bank balance? Spoiler: it’s probably not the number of cocktails I can sip on a beach. So, before we rush to join the early-retirement club, maybe we should focus on creating a life we actually enjoy, grass-growing moments included. Because sometimes, the grass isn’t greener, it’s just grass.

Why the Rush to Retire Early? Early retirement has become a hot topic, fueled by financial influencers and the allure of financial independence. The idea of relaxing on a beach by 40 sounds appealing, but have you ever stopped to ask: Why do you want to retire early? Is it about genuine freedom, or is it more about escaping a career that feels unfulfilling? Work doesn't have to be just about a paycheck. It can be a source of purpose, growth, and connection. Rather than rushing to retire, maybe it's time to reflect on: > How can we build a career that truly aligns with our passions? > What work will continue to inspire me at 60 or 70? > How do we redefine success beyond the numbers in our bank account? Don't let the noise convince you otherwise. Strive for a life you don't need to escape from—whether early or late. Retirement ≠ The End It's a beautiful thing. Retirement, I mean. But it may not be the end. It could be the start of an entirely new chapter. I have seen a number of people in my network retire recently and some who are phasing their work schedules towards retirement. Here's a story: ➡️ Retired at 60. ➡️ Got bored at 61. No hobbies/bad English weather! ➡️ Got a four day a week job at 63. All of the sudden, he was enjoying the challenges of life again. Closing one chapter opens up the next. Retirement isn't an end point. It's a checkpoint. It's a chance to say goodbye to some things and open the door to some new things. Sometimes an opportunity to create a more balanced lifestyle and offer valuable skills picked up through a lifetime of work. It's time to celebrate that new beginning.
