Another #Olympics may be done and dusted....Tom Cruise has abseiled into the Stade de France (Sorry Tom you're not a patch on Queen Elizabeth parachuting but nice try!). But the spirit of competition and excellence is far from over. 28th August marks the start of the #Paralympic Games - highlighting the incredible abilities of #disabled athletes. I am am blown away by that fact that 24 athletes competing in this year's Paralympics have used Back Up's services at some point in their journey to #Paris! The Paralympics are not just a sports event; they are a global movement that challenges perceptions, breaks down barriers, and fosters inclusivity. These athletes train with the same intensity and determination as their Olympic counterparts, often facing additional hurdles both on and off the field. Supporting the Paralympics also means advocating for greater visibility and accessibility in all aspects of life. It’s an opportunity for businesses, communities, and individuals to commit to creating environments where everyone can thrive. As the Paralympic Games begin, let’s rally behind these incredible athletes, celebrate their victories, and ensure their stories are told with the same enthusiasm and respect that we have shown the Olympians. The journey of excellence continues, and it is one that everyone should be a part of. Navdeep's incredible performance in the F41 men’s javelin throw event has brought India its 7th gold medal after a dramatic upgrade, while Simran’s remarkable sprint in the T12 200m secured her a well-deserved bronze. During the Paris Paralympics, have you seen the white NPA flag go up often and wonder which nation does it represent & which anthem plays when someone from that team wins gold? 👉 NPA stands for 'Neutral Paralympic Athletes' and is used to represent individual athletes from Russia & Belarus, after the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) banned the two nation's participation in the Paralympics given the ongoing war 👉 The IPC vets the athletes and only those who have no involvement or affiliation with the war and military are allowed to participate 👉 In Paris, there are 96 participants from Team NPA across 5 sports, majority of them from para-athletics and swimming. 👉 When someone from NPA wins gold, which has happened about 22 times thus far, the Paralympic anthem is played but their medal wins are not officially recorded on the medals table 👉 Similar team structures have been created in the past for representatives from Yugoslavia (1992), East Timor (2000) and refugees & asylees (2016) before an official Refugee Paralympic Team has been created from the 2020 Tokyo Games.

🎯 The Power of Resilience: A Paralympic Archer’s Triumph In a moment that left the world in awe, Indian Paralympic archer 🇮🇳 Sheetal Devi pulled back her bow, aimed with unwavering focus, and released the arrow. The result? A perfect 10 in her very first attempt! But this wasn’t just any shot—it was a testament to the indomitable human spirit. Paralympians often face challenges that seem insurmountable. Yet, with every draw of the bowstring, they defy the odds and redefine what’s possible. Consider this: In the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, over 4,400 athletes from 162 countries competed, each one with a story of perseverance and triumph. This archer’s journey is no different. Despite having no arms due to a rare medical condition called phocomelia, she refused to let her dreams be shattered. Through years of relentless practice and unyielding determination, she honed her skills, becoming a symbol of hope for millions. This perfect 10 isn’t just a score—it’s a victory over adversity, a reminder that with enough grit and passion, we can all hit our targets, no matter how distant they may seem. Let this story inspire you to aim high, stay focused, and never give up. 2024 Olympics International Paralympic Committee #OvercomingObstacles #Inspiration

𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? The Paralympic Games, a testament to human spirit and resilience, have consistently showcased extraordinary athletic feats. Yet, the recognition and accolades bestowed upon Paralympic athletes often pale in comparison to their Olympic counterparts. This disparity, despite the immense talent and dedication displayed by Paralympians, is a glaring oversight that needs to be addressed. Athletes like 𝐀𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐢 𝐋𝐞𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚, who shattered world records and brought home gold medals, deserve the same level of appreciation and celebration as any Olympic champion. Their achievements are no less remarkable, if not more so, given the challenges they overcome. It's time to recognize that athletic excellence transcends physical limitations. Let's break down the barriers that perpetuate this inequality. We need to amplify the stories of Paralympic athletes, celebrate their triumphs, and ensure they receive the support and recognition they truly deserve. By doing so, we can foster a more inclusive and equitable sporting landscape. #ParalympicAthletes #EqualRecognition #SportsEquity #AvaniLekhara #Inspiration #MKM18

𝗔𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 Singapore’s Yip Pin Xiu won her latest gold at the Paris Paralympics on Friday. That got me thinking – why is there such disparity in the attention from the media and public, the prize money and significance of that gold medal between Olympics and Paralympics… Reflecting on the news coverage of Yip Pin Xiu’s journey of becoming Singapore’s Paralympian, her story of overcoming all odds is a powerful example of self-leadership in the face of adversity, offering valuable reminders to us: 💡 𝙎𝙚𝙡𝙛-𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝𝙨 Instead of seeing her Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which progressively weakens muscles, as a limitation or indulging in self-pity, she recognized her love for swimming, developed it and turned it into her strength. 💡 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 She faced discrimination and isolation growing up, but she faced these external judgements head on, managed to overcome them and used these experiences to build mental toughness and resilience. All of these in addition to the discipline, the challenging journey, the pain and sweat that any competitive sportsman will have to go through. 💡 𝘿𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙨 Despite the disparity in recognition between Paralympians and Olympians, she did not allow societal expectations or external validation to define her. She focused on defining her own success and her own goals. 💡 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 Although missing the podium in 2012, she came back stronger, adapting her approach and continued to grow. She bounced back by winning two gold medals at Rio 2016, even after she stayed committed to grow. Her world records and golds in subsequent Paralympics, world championships and Asian Para Games would not have been by stroke of luck. All of us are in life's own Olympics. How we want to participate and ultimately emerge in our ’Olympics' is all up to us.

This remarkable achievement marks a significant improvement from India's 43rd place in Rio 2016 and 24th in Tokyo 2020.
