Additional takeaway from my last post: want to help western North Carolina (WNC)? Adopt a church and make a donation directly. There is a huge logistical/ distribution problem getting aid out from the I40/US321 corridors right now (the two examples from Old Fort and Morganton provided last post plus the Town of Boone stopped taking donations Friday). As in the example provided, churches are actively engaged in helping their communities but are short on resources while local municipalities are being overrun with the influx of aid. Disaggregating the distribution approach is needed. Just as in business, small locally focused industrial distributors often provide value because of their access to and relationships with their customers. So too do churches have this access and these relationships and every community has a church. So just as I found Ed and Reggie at FBC Hildebran so too could you find a church in WNC and make a donation and help bypass the bottlenecks. Want to help WNC? Such a great initiative and such a simple idea that can be adopted by everyone.

I read an article about short term mission trips. It was an expose and they were detailing how after a group comes into a village to build a building, create a new source of income, or simply bring in toys, food, or clothing that once that group leaves, all of it is torn down or thrown away. Why would this happen? Because there are huge exchanges of funds that are collected by local government or charitable agencies, not to mention nonprofit, non taxable donations received. The only losers in the around the table win-win game are the villagers or orphans that are exploited. There can be no end game that works. Who would donate or keep sending groups of volunteers to build buildings if the locals appeared to be well fed, well clothed, or if they already had a home or a school building? Leveling up is not good for the missions business or travel industry to these regions. #expose
