Reflecting on the CLIA Conference 2024: A Milestone Event for the Cruise Industry
The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Conference 2024, held from May 23-25 in Southampton, UK, stands out as the largest and most impactful event of its kind in Europe. This year's conference brought together travel agents, industry leaders, and cruise line representatives, offering a rich agenda that was both educational and inspiring.
One of the key highlights was the introduction of the "New to Selling Cruise Day" on May 22. This pre-conference session was designed specifically for new agents, providing them with intensive industry and product training. I absolutely loved the session held by Debbee Dale, she is such an inspiration and a force, she truly motivated me and the many others in the audience, I am certain.
The main event featured a comprehensive schedule that included conference sessions, an industry trade fair, and the unique opportunity to tour some of the newest and most luxurious ships in the industry. Attendees had the chance to select two ships to visit over consecutive days from a distinguished pool, including Cunard's Queen Anne, Silversea's Silver Dawn, Princess Cruises' Sky Princess, MSC Virtuosa, P&O Cruises' Iona, and Fred. Olsen's Borealis. Remarkably, four of these ships were making their debut appearances at a CLIA Conference.
Andy Harmer, Managing Director of CLIA UK & Ireland, emphasised the significance of this year's conference, highlighting its expansion in both scope and scale. He pointed out that the increased number of ships and the extended land program offered unparalleled insights and networking opportunities. These elements are crucial for travel agents to enhance their understanding of the cruise industry and to refine their sales techniques.
The conference also featured a celebratory evening event on Friday evening, Sail Away, providing a relaxed atmosphere for networking and celebrating the industry's achievements.
For those of us in the travel industry, events like the CLIA Conference are instrumental in keeping us connected, informed, and inspired. This year's conference not only met but exceeded my expectations, setting a high bar for future events.
