During the flight, they gradually reduce speed and maintain a stable altitude as they approach the ground. They use fine controls for a gentle descent when a few centimeters above the surface. Making the drone follow me using a PID controller in the x and y (forward and sideways) directions. I'm controlling the center of the detected object (me) by trying to align it with the center of the video frame, and also controlling the size of the box. In a nutshell, if I'm small go fast because I'm far away, and if I'm big slow down and eventually stop because I'm really close. My knobs to adjust are the x and y velocity commands to the drone over mavlink. Jetson inference is used for object detection and tracking. The drone might be a little blurry but it's on the left. this is a hardware in the loop setup before i throw this in the real drone. #operationsquirrel #ArduPilot #mavlink

Two big challenges that I'm not hearing addressed in the 'docked-drone' discussion are highlighted in the question: Once the drone returns to the dock post-flight, how do you (1) securely and (2) automatically process & share that data without introducing multiple clunky, inefficient processes? I understand the hype around the hardware and the impact it will have, but as these automated capture methods normalise across the industry, I believe the focus will once again (and rightfully so) shift back to the decision-changing insight derived from the data.
