🚀Second day of Internship Experience UK 2024 at Bright Network – Part 1! ✅Laura Tye from Clyde & Co has kicked off the keynote talking about her personal and professional hardships and progression. Her story was very inspiring to hear as she talked about her journey with changes in careers and countries. She is such a positive and resilient female role model, who has definitely inspired me! ✨The takeaways from Laura’s speech: - Resilience is key: setbacks make you more determined - Be eager to further learn - Changes in the set career are okay – just work where you feel happy The main event was hosted by fabulous Rachel Delaney! ✅The first speaker for the main bit was Victoria Stedman, Commercial Colleague Engagement Manager at British Airways. The commercial vision that Vicky oversees encourages a happy united team that delivers the best revenue while providing an exceptional service. The challenges that British Airways run into include geopolitical conflicts, closure of air space, etc. She also mentioned the new £7bn transformation plan that aims to turn the costumer experience on its head to make sure complete customer satisfaction. 🔗Overall, Victoria has showcased her passion in working for British Airways, achieving a lot in the just 18 months that she has been with the company. She sure made it appealing, when she mentioned the new graduate programme (and obviously the flying perks). ✨The takeaways from Victoria’s Q&A: - Do not be afraid to ask questions and being curious. - Commercial sector looks for attitude and potential capabilities, not specific previous experience. - Open-mindedness is one of the key value of BA. - Technological advances are used to gain feedback and improve. - Do not allow AI to replace your voice. ✅The second session was conducted by Daisy Thompson, Sales Sustainability Lead (Past Graduate), Juetong Liang, Product Technology Engineering Graduate, from Nestlé. 🔗Daisy spoke about sustainability in the food sector, specifically environmentally and socially. She mentioned Nestle UK&I sustainability strategy that focuses on the climate change, sustainable sourcing, packaging and communities. Their initiative in working with consumers is very appealing as they have a strict plan to execute sustainability goals. 🔗Juetong spoke about R&D organisation, particularly its structure and roles. He proposed that making the journey from idea to reality is a methodical, multifunctional cooperation effort. He also mentioned Nestle’s approach to innovation as great ideas are always heard by Nestle! ✨The Q&A takeaways - You can find your niche even as a graduate. - Nestle recognises their sustainability responsibilities. - Nestle argues you can balance both sustainability and profitability. Overall, a great start to the day, please feel free to share your insights! #NESTLE #BritishAirways #CareerAdvice #IEUK #Internship

✔️New research titled "Cross-industry career mobility of hospitality and tourism graduates: Motivations and transferrable skills" has been published in #JHTM! • 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿: YooHee Hwang, Sau Yin Cheung, Vincent Tung, and Kaye Chon (all from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) • 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁: Career mobility is common among hospitality and tourism graduates, often moving from one industry to another (cross-industry career mobility). The current study aims to investigate motivations for cross-industry career mobility. Moreover, this study identifies transferrable skills and sources of such skills from college and work experiences. Although previous studies have advanced our understanding of why hospitality and tourism graduates leave the industry, there is limited research on transferrable skills for cross-industry career mobility. The current study addresses this knowledge gap. The authors gathered qualitative data via 28 in-depth semi-structured interviews from hospitality and tourism graduates working in other industries, such as consulting, information technology, and finance. The current study advances understanding of why and how hospitality and tourism graduates move to other industries by drawing on the career mobility theory and the effort-reward imbalance model. Mentorship programs that connect alumni working in other industries and flexible internship arrangements to include various industries are recommended, given an increasing number of graduates going to other fields. • 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲: https://lnkd.in/gKGCCGxx #CareerMobility #TransferrableSkill #IndustryTurnover #hospitalitytourism

Thrilled to reflect on my enriching 10-month journey as a Sustainability and Social Responsibility Associate at Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA)!✈️🌱 This internship has been a profound journey of learning, growth, and self-discovery. Here’s a glimpse of what I have learned: 🌱 Sustainability in Tourism: Immersing myself in sustainability initiatives within the tourism industry has been very eye-opening; there are so many approaches and initiatives aiming to steer this industry toward a more sustainable and resilient future. One of my supervisors once said that sustainable tourism should not be a category of tourism because travel and tourism, no matter what kind, should be sustainable and responsible in itself. 🌟 Collaboration Across Borders: Working alongside a diverse array of stakeholders — from governmental bodies to NGOs, private sector entities, businesses, and individuals from various countries — allows me to see the power of collaboration. I have been amazed by how these stakeholders bring forward such diverse approaches to sustainable tourism. I believe that, with joined forces and diverse minds, we can thrive and drive for collective impacts for our mutual goals. 🛠️ Acquisition of Invaluable Skills: With variations of tasks and assignments, I have learned a number of skills, from soft skills like communication and adaptability to hard skills like project proposal writing and carbon emission calculation. It was such a great time getting to hone new skills while practicing the old ones at the same time! 🔍 Self-Discovery: One of the most important lessons learned was about myself. Throughout the internship journey, there were times I faced challenges, but that was when I could see my strengths and weaknesses. I had the opportunity to observe how I handle different situations, and I found that to be very invaluable self-discovery. 🎯 Shaping Future Goals: This journey has been fundamental in shaping my future aspirations. Equipped with newfound knowledge, experiences, and a deeper understanding of myself, I become more confident in utilizing my new skill sets and pursuing my passions and purposes. For those of you who are interested in sustainability and tourism and opportunities like mine, PATA is a great place to learn more about it! 🤩 If you want to be a part of the PATA internship program and sustainability journey, please visit https://lnkd.in/gJSUsXXE #Sustainability #SocialResponsibility #InternshipJourney #PATAExperience
