Really interesting take on Ryanair and exactly what I've been thinking is behind their positioning strategy: Contrast! They have bad customer experience, but... Their seats are uncomfortable, but... They wrecked my best friend's hand luggage when trying to fit it into their baggage check... But hey, they're pretty cheap! 😀 So, is it necessary for a brand to have it all? Maybe not. In fact, trying to do so often dilutes the promise of consistency — and that's the essence of a brand: You know what you get. In other words, none of this is by accident, especially when you consider their access to a massive, global talent pool with years of strategic expertise. I think the same applies to United Airlines. Remember that incident when a passenger was dragged off the plane? Why didn’t they just offer him compensation and a luxury hotel stay? That story is unforgettable.
