Happy American Independence Day. Some celebrate with fireworks, barbecues, and family gatherings, while others stay at home. Whatever your plans, it’s likely that your dog will need extra care to cope with July 4th celebrations. Tips for Keeping Your Dog Safe and Calm: • Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, comfortable area where your dog can retreat from the noise and commotion (see last month’s Training Tidbit).. • Stay Calm and Reassuring: Your dog takes cues from you, so staying calm and comforting can help ease their anxiety. • Avoid Fireworks: Keep your dog indoors during fireworks displays to prevent them from getting scared and running away. • Identification: Check that your dog has up-to-date identification tags and is microchipped, just in case they get frightened and run off. • Exercise Earlier: Give your dog plenty of exercise earlier in the day to help them relax in the evening. • Distract and Soothe: Use toys, chews, or calming music to distract and soothe your dog during loud events. • Add white noise such as fans and air conditioning units, as well as white noise generating apps, and turn on TV or radio for additional masking sound. Let's make this July 4th enjoyable and stress-free for everyone, two-legged and four. Happy Independence Day! #Happy4thOfJuly #IndependenceDay #DogCare #JoyfulDog #VirginiaDogTrainer #DogTrainer #TimetoTrain

Follow these tips for a stress-free celebration for both pets and humans! 🎆🐾 1️⃣ Keep pets indoors to prevent them from running away out of fear. 2️⃣ Provide a safe, quiet space for them to retreat with distractions like toys, treats, and calming music. 3️⃣ Give them a calming supplement to help them relax. 4️⃣ Make sure their tag and microchip info are up-to-date in case they do escape. 5️⃣ Watch pets closely around fireworks to prevent accidents.

As we prepare to celebrate the long weekend, we encourage you to keep safety top of mind. Whether you're travelling to see family and friends, hosting a family meal, or have some fun activities planned with the littles in your life, here are a few tips to remember: 🚗 - When travelling, preparation is key! Plan your pit stops, pack some extra snacks and practice patience. 🍽️ - If you're entertaining, be mindful of what's happening in the kitchen. 🐰- Easter egg hunts are so much fun! Keep your fur babies safe by supervising them to ensure they don't eat anything they are not supposed to have. We hope you have a safe and happy long weekend! #sofvie
