TGIF. Like many of you, I’ve been feeling the aftereffects of booming business combined with the short July 4th workweek. Not a bad thing to complain about, however. #Paidfamilyleave on a national scale is being proposed by the Biden administration. Currently, unlike the #EU nations, our #PFL programs operate on a state by state basis. This can be chaotic for #employers who have workers in a variety of jurisdictions, each with its own program (or lack of same). The proposal is for implementation via the #SocialSecurityAdministration. This is an issue to watch for in our electoral politics and ahead into 2025. #employmentlaw #familyleave #paidleave Falcon Rappaport & Berkman LLP Michele Schlereth, CPA, Esq., MST Sharon Hairston, CPA Rachel Lavitas 🎗️

New workers in their teens and early 20's are more likely to be injured and older workers are more likely to suffer a fatality. You may not be a new worker but probably know a young/new worker. This OSHA webinar could be a good place to start or continue the education of worker rights. The four pillars of safety system success are 1. Good Policies and Procedures 2. Training/Education of all team members especially supervisors 3. Effective Communication 4. Auditing #keepteenworkerssafe https://lnkd.in/grq_Ce5h https://lnkd.in/gzm8xZTV

Sign up for this webinar in mid-July on young workers! The trend is alarming on work-related young worker fatalities and serious injuries. Their lack of experience, being placed in jobs they aren’t supposed to do, and reluctance to speak up are just a few of the reasons why young workers are sustaining injury in the workplace. Employers should treat all workers the same (FT, PT, temporary, or seasonal) with new hire training, OTJ training, and distribution of PPE.

NDIS—a bureaucratic wonderland where the powers that be, juggle buzzwords like "co-design" & "consultation" while tightening the leash around participants they're supposedly helping. Let's dissect this circus of legislative genius. Information Gathering Powers Let's give the CEO a magnifying glass & set of keys to every participant’s life. Sure, they've slapped on some “limitations,” but who’s counting when it’s all about "necessity"? who gets to decide what’s necessary? Same folks who’ve proven they can’t always see past their own desks. A slippery slope where privacy takes a back seat to whatever new whim comes up. #Stakeholder Engagement “Co-design”—a word that’s as solid as a puff of smoke in the wind. No #statutory definition? Perfect! They can pretend to listen while they do exactly what they intended from the start. A bit like asking a toddler for their input on bedtime—sounds cute but changes nothing. & without a clear process, it’s just a legal minefield waiting to blow up in everyone’s face. Delegation of Powers Nothing says "efficient decision-making" like passing the buck down to juniors. Who needs experience when you’ve got quotas, right? Its a recipe for chaos where #complex decisions end up in the hands of those still figuring out the basics. Expect a tidal wave of appeals & complaints, but don't hold your breath for accountability—it's going to be as elusive as a decent #government apology. Merits Review Illusion of choice! By only reviewing the final decision, they neatly sidestep the messier bits that might actually need fixing. It's like letting you contest your final bill but not the dodgy charges leading up to it. So, we’re #funneling participants into a system where their only shot at change is after the damage is done—classic move. States & Territories More cooks in the kitchen, more excuses when the meal becomes inedible. NDIS, originally designed to be participant-centered, now becomes a tug-of-war between governments who, surprise, might have different priorities—like balancing their #budgets over actually meeting the needs of disabled. It’s a wonder anything gets done at all. Exemptions from #Sunsetting #Legislative instruments exempt from sunsetting— nothing says “we care about staying current” like rules that never expire. It’s like leaving milk in the fridge indefinitely—sure, it might be fine today, but give it time, & you’ll regret not tossing it sooner. This is just a bureaucratic way to sideline oversight & keep the status quo frozen in time. Like a bad magic trick—full of misdirection & sleight of hand. It promises to "get #NDIS back on track," but it feels more like they’re laying new tracks right over the people they’re supposed to help. Increased powers for the top, reduced avenues at the bottom & a system that’s looking more like a fortress than a support network. Let’s just hope someone’s watching closely, because this is a show that could end very badly for those already fighting to be heard.
