Spending today at Google.org Impact Summit in Sunnyvale. Some quick take aways at the half way mark: - real emphasis on collaborations across business, academia, civil society, and government. It’s going to take all of us. - increasingly access to information is life or death. The timeline may be very immediate — refugee finding a safe house — mid term — improving drinking water in a community. We need data and access to respond. - we need to amplify the tools being discussed here to the small Civil Society Organizations that are most proximate to issues and to people. They are the last mile.

It is very exciting to see our work at Brightpath Strategies continue to expand – our ability to provide a “how” for activating and incorporating community voice seems to resonate with those interested in the ever-elusive “real change”. As exciting as it is to see community change agents identified, it’s equally important for our public service systems to identify internal community change agents as well! The same can be said for private or corporate clients: if we’re expecting a shift in the behavior of our customers, we must anticipate which internal changes will be required in order to support these changes. Whether an agency is public or private; nonprofit, start-up, or Fortune 500 – the status quo does not support transformative change. ---------- Hi, I’m Michael. I believe that activating the expertise and capacity within each local community is the key to identifying and implementing transformative solutions. So, I facilitate discussions that help public and private systems alike to understand and engage their communities, using tools and practices that are science-based and field-tested. Does this resonate with you? 📢 Share a like or comment. 💡 Follow me for more Michael Emmart, Ed.D., CRP ☎ Use LinkedIn’s messaging function to share more about your hopes.

Highlights from our October Nonprofit CEO and Executive Director Peer Group Meet-Up - we covered a lot of ground! What’s resonating with you? Please share any relevant resources or thoughts! 💬 Storytelling is key to building trust with boards, especially after periods of instability. We talked about ways to foster engagement early and set the stage for lasting relationships. ⏳ Proper planning takes time, but board members often push for faster results. We shared strategies for advocating for leadership approaches and the value of early advocacy. 🔄 If you’re leading an initiative controlled by another nonprofit entity, and navigating layers of control and responsibility, you're not alone! Interested in joining a spinoff conversation? Ping me! 💡 Asks: Know of any grant opportunities for tech infrastructure upgrades for a social service org? Drop a note! Are you a nonprofit CEO or Executive Director looking for free support from a remarkable community of peers? Please join us! https://lnkd.in/ekPxj6cm

I just attended LinkedIn for Nonprofits #ImpactSummit! There was a focus on a few things, including how to tell stories to drive impact. Here are some takeaways that stood out to me: -Spend time understanding dynamic. Thinking about your audience, not just you. Remember everyone else you're talking to also has a story. -Short, declarative sentences tells them what to hold onto. -There's you, me, but that collective WE can be really impactful. -Turn an obstacle into a mountain/hill and just climb it. -Important skills = critical thinking, problem solving, communication AND curiosity, empathy, resilience. Focusing my story telling on what the audience actually needs/wants and getting away from what I think they need or what I want to share has been a huge shift for me in the past year. It was great to hear the presenters solidify that. Feeling inspired to share more impactful stories and help guide others to do the same. 💡
