Improvements to Farnborough town centre are due to begin early in the new year when we will start putting in paving and planters to open up the currently hoarded area opposite Starbucks in the outside part of Princes Mead. The works are part of an important project to enhance the local area, provide a better space for markets and events next year and to generally improve the town centre environment, helping to boost footfall and trade in the town centre. Work starts on January 6 and is expected to take around three months. We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause – we will try to keep disruption to a minimum. Funding for the project comes from the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Reading about interesting concept for funding affordable housing that is gaining traction in Ontario, I had a few thoughts... In the US, could the bonds be issued by a public agency to gain additional benefits from tax exempt status... Could this concept be used for funding clean energy or resilience activities that can be monetized for repaying the bonds... Could a concept like tax increment financing be used to create the revenue stream for payback that is based on project benefits that accrue across a larger area... https://lnkd.in/gHei_Fzf

Today's news from the Minister of Housing, Communities & Local Govt is even more encouraging about the Long Term Plan for Towns, its confirmed: Its commitment to working with each of the 75 places in the Long-Term Plan for Towns. Notably, the Ministry refers to “places” rather than towns or town centres, signalling a broader, inclusive approach. The refocused programme aims to support the delivery of five national missions Each place set to receive up to £20 million over 10 years to address the root causes of deprivation and drive meaningful renewal. Additional Capacity Funding: An extra £200,000 will be allocated in FY2025/26. Programme Delivery Grants: Funding will begin in FY2026/27, supporting long-term impact. Encouragement to Keep Moving Forward: Communities are advised to continue with their current plans, with reforms designed to strengthen and build upon the progress made to date. Long Term Plan for Towns - it continues .... Many of you know I’ve been deeply involved in Wrexham's journey through the UK Government-funded Long-Term Plan for Towns (LTPFT) programme. Since the summer, this programme's future has felt uncertain—originally established under the previous Conservative government, there was understandable speculation about its direction. Today’s Budget Statement (page 68, if you’re curious) brings encouraging news: while the UK Shared Prosperity Fund is reducing, the LTPFT programme is set to continue, albeit with some reforms. This is a positive sign for Wrexham and other UK towns involved! The government website also notes that a new prospectus will be released soon. The door remains open for long term community driven impactful change in Wrexham! #wrexham #placemaking #towns #longtermplanfortowns
