𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 | ‘𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲’ With Cosun’s youth council, young arable farmers Lieselotte Janknegt (27) and Bart te Pas (32) aim to contribute to a “futureproof cooperative that can participate on world markets.” “Decisions that are made now, will decide what we have to deal with tomorrow” Lieselotte says. “That’s why we aim to get young and future beet farmers involved. Cosun is giving everyone the opportunity to make their voice heard.” Bart hopes more and more young growers will weigh in on short- and long-term plans that can contribute to a stable cooperation. “whether it’s about creating new markets for the future, or getting more out of our current portfolio. We need to keep on moving.” With their youth council activities, including a consultative role in the member council, Lieselotte and Bart are making a direct impact for the younger generation of arable farmers! #cosunyouthcouncil #youngfarmers #cooperation

👏 Growing Our Community: The Impact of Supporting Local Farmers 🌱 Last weekend, I had the opportunity to visit our local farmers' market, and it turned into an eye-opening experience when I struck up a conversation with Annet, a third-generation farmer. Her story was both inspiring and illuminating, highlighting the immense dedication and hard work that goes into maintaining a family-run farm. As she shared her experiences and challenges, it became abundantly clear how vital our support is for sustaining local agriculture. Here's why backing our local farmers matters: 🌱Fresher, healthier food on our tables 🌱Stronger local economy 🌱Reduced environmental impact 🌱Preserved farmland and rural character 🌱Direct connection to our food sources By choosing local produce, we’re doing much more than just buying food; we’re actively investing in the future of our community. Supporting local farmers ensures that our money stays within the community, fostering economic growth and creating jobs. It also helps preserve local farms and agricultural traditions, which in turn contributes to the sustainability and resilience of our local food system. 👏 🌱 Together, we can ensure a thriving future for our farmers and a healthier, more connected community for all. Let's support our farmers and grow together. Share with us your experience on supporting local farmers in the comments! #LocalFarmers #CommunitySupport #SustainableAgriculture

The unique climate of the Northern Territory presents both opportunities and challenges for vegetable growers in the region ☀️ With extreme weather conditions and limited access to resources, growers must adapt to a highly variable environment. However, this climate also allows for two distinct growing windows, giving NT producers an edge in supplying fresh produce when other regions can’t 🌱 Curious to learn how growers are navigating these conditions and maximising their production? As a passionate advocate for sustainable agriculture practices, I'd like to shed light on a thought-provoking article by Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, titled "Dollars Don't Kill Screwworms." The editorial highlights the federal government's tendency to allocate funds towards problems without fully understanding the root causes, only to realize that money alone cannot solve issues like the screwworm infestation. This resonates with our local context, where we often witness well-intentioned initiatives failing to yield desired outcomes due to a lack of thorough analysis and community engagement. As we strive to empower small-scale farmers in Africa, it's essential to recognize that effective solutions require a deep understanding of the challenges and a collaborative approach that involves all stakeholders. By prioritizing grassroots involvement and embracing indigenous knowledge, we can develop more targeted and sustainable interventions that truly make a difference in the lives of our farmers and the environment. #abutispinach #Agvocate #AgroDiplomacy 🌾🐝💡
