The more I learn about VEL, the more I understand its significance. It’s not a networking group, or a lead generating service or a pay-to-play opportunity. VEL is a choice. If each person is a balloon, and tied to that balloon are our fears, failures, anxieties and doubt - all the different things that keep that balloon from reaching new heights - VEL can help you choose to cut those things loose. They don’t do the cutting or even act as the scissors. You do the work, but VEL helps you understand where and how to start. As the balloon climbs, a greater perspective is found. One that shows more of the road ahead and the purpose behind the effort. “Discovering Parts Within” is the cornerstone program VEL stands on. It welcomes a very small amount of candidates each year. It’s only goal is to help particiants cut their balloons loose. It’s the same style of instruction our founder has provided to NASA and executives across multiple industries. Love to tell you more. We have three spots left for the next DPW session. #heyfahey #velinstitute #purpose
VEL proudly welcomes Chris Fahey as our new Chief of Staff. With a focus on organizational operations, community engagement, and event management, Chris is committed to connecting veterans, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to VEL's unique professional and personal development opportunities. Together, we aim to foster enlightenment and success through leadership, connection, and continuous learning.

Is "The Lucky 13" by Vic Pepe on your summer reading list? It's not too late! There's still lots of summertime left, and this is a fantastic read. Vic shares thoughtful and relatable stories from his career journey. Vic provides a model for leadership. One of my fave parts - "Celebrate wins of others often...and let everyone participate in the celebration...work through losses - together. No one loses alone. Ever!" Go get it. https://lnkd.in/ekTNiVwY

Had a surprise visit from none other than CAPT Chris Norris —the man, the myth, the legend! One of my first Commanding Officers, CAPT Norris has had a lasting impact on my leadership style and the standard I hold myself to as an officer. His expectations were always high, but he set them because he saw the potential in each of us and believed we could rise to meet them. One lesson he shared during our days on the DDG has stayed with me and continues to guide my approach to leadership: 1. Focus on your sphere of influence: Identify the areas where you have the ability to make the most impact. Whether it’s through your passions or leadership, focus your energy on what you can control and improve. Pursue those efforts relentlessly, and don’t waste energy stressing over things that are outside your reach. This has helped me stay grounded and intentional in my leadership. 2. Always prepare for the next rank or career step: He always emphasized the importance of readiness, both in terms of skills and mindset. Cultivating executive presence and emotional intelligence is critical, not only for the job you’re in but for the next one you’ll take on. The Navy, like any large organization, will continue moving forward with or without you—so it’s your responsibility to ensure you’re equipped for every possible outcome and ready to adapt to whatever comes next. His visit legit made my whole week 😂🫡!
