The LAPD use of force investigation into this incident should take no more than 5 minutes in determining the Officers actions were justified. The Officers were actively pursuing an armed subject on a bicycle that had just shot a family member. While the armed bicyclist actively attempted to evade the Officers, the Officers maintained distance and attempted to deescalate the situation by communicating with the subject over a loud speaker. When the armed subject continued his attempts to flee, for the safety of the community an Officer used a modified PIT maneuver to safely end the pursuit. This armed and dangerous subject was then quickly taken into custody with out further incident and only a “complaint”of injury which he was quickly medically cleared from in order to be booked into jail. The Officers actions were creative, professional, and proper and the use of force is 100% justified. They improvised, adapted, and overcame the challenge and removed a dangerous person and a gun from the streets.
